Has anybody else noticed that this shop is a little bit ridiculous?! I came here with my dad once before a violin concert where I was solo. Thus, I had to look good. My dad suggested we get a beautiful shirt and look smart. Ok dad. So Anne Fontaine it is! Yes their shirts are beautiful and they have the most amazing styles, but it’s just White shirts! I couldn’t help but giggle at how seriously it was all being taken. I did indeed buy a shirt from here, but I didn’t wear it to the concert. Instead I came back the following week, returned it and bought a belt. There’s no denying that their shirts are amazing though, brilliant quality and if the right person comes along they will be in shirt-heaven. Maybe a teacher or something.

There is something really beautiful about the story of Anne Fontaine. Born in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil, Anne Fontaine made her own clothes using natural fibres and unique designs. Fast forward, and Fontaine now living in France approached her now husband to design her first collection-500 white shirts for women. This was to be Anne’s first collection and 100 of the finest were sold in America and Japan to name a couple of places. The Anne Fontaine designer name was born. Her shop in Edinburgh is a real pleasure to go into and browse, as her initial foundations of design remain very prominent. Laces, linens and natural fibres are detailed with embroidery and double set collars and cuffs creating a unique style that you’ll be hard pushed to match anywhere else. Even if it isn’t your style there is no doubt you will appreciate the simplicity and beauty of the craftsmanship that’s gone into these garments. The Spring Summer collection has just come into stores and I really loved the polka dot skirts in the collection. However, for a student like me it is pretty out of my price range and most things are in the range of £150 plus. A shame because I can really imagine me rocking one of those shirts! Lovely clothes, fantastic back-story and a refreshing change from the garish extravagance of the stores in Multrees Walk.
