Saddlers Restaurant

Pretty run of the mill average food here. Very local café look and feel. Had the bacon and pancakes, which was hot, fresh and served quickly. Pretty reasonably priced. If you’re after something for sustenance rather than something special, this is a good choice.

I’ve only used this place for takeaway sandwiches and they’re always fantastic. No silliness, just great ingredients and friendly staff. It’s my default spot for lunch in Durham. Grab a sarnie and sit by the cathedral or the river to eat. Bliss.

A great little café for brunch, lunch and snacks, with friendly and helpful staff… We have always had very well made food here, the sandwiches are well filled with quality ingredients, and the jacket spuds are good… This is our first stop for a snack when we are down in town.

Had a delicious Eggs Benedict with salmon for the right price. Friends had the full British. We were well satisfied.

A nice little restaurant/​café in the centre of Durham. Saddlers does a good range of simple, hearty meals, lasagne, pasta, jacket potato etc, nothing elaborate but it’s nicely cooked. They also offer a very reasonably priced Sunday lunch, which is popular.
If you don’t want to eat a meal there you can just go and enjoy a drink and a slice of cake, which is very nice, although not the best you’ll find in Durham.
The downstairs room is the busiest; if you can sit upstairs as it’s quieter, more spacious and generally much nicer. It is table service but you do have to pay for your meal before it arrives. This is fair enough, since otherwise it would be too easy for people to walk out without paying. The staff are friendly and service is reasonably quick.
