Food delicious, wine good, staff could be a little better trained. On the whole I’d recommend and will definitely visit again.

Went on a Wednesday night. About half full. The menu looked good so we each took different options. I went for the figs with gorgonzola and the Melanzana as a main. The figs were good, nice balance, not too sweet and not too much cheese. The Melanzana was okay, it was a little overbooked and some flavours were lost. Service was okay, a little slow and one of the waitresses didn’t have a good knowledge of the menu. Shared a cheese board at the end that was enough for two. Only disappointment was at end. Asked for decaf espresso and it was confirmed they had it but I received a Nescafe. I brought it to the waitresses attention and she removed from the bill without a fuss. I recommend you try it but avoid the coffee.

One of the poshest meals that you can get in Derby… not saying to much, but it was good. The staff were a bit amateurish but attentive. Reasonably priced.

Delightful, delicious, intimate and highly recommended. Zest is a smart restaurant that is nicely tucked away down a small side street in Derbys Friargate. The downstairs interior is bright, open and has some lovely photography adorning the walls. The staff are very friendly and attentive without being false or over keen. We recently went for the early evening deal(2 courses for £15.95 or 3 courses for £17.95). The menu obviously doesn’t have the full range of dishes but there is enough to excite any foodie like myself. I also checked out the full menu and the dishes sounded magnificent. I opted for a starter of peri-peri prawn skewers followed by fillet beef stroganoff, topped off with the choc & banana caramel tart. Rather than bore you with superlatives, I will just say that for £17.95 you will certainly struggle to find a better meal in Derby.

This is my favourite restaurant in Derby and I have spent many a birthday and anniversary here. The menu is small but thoughtfully designed, with an emphasis on local produce and seasonality. It changes every couple of months. The food has always been first class — I notice some people have commented on portion size, but I have never found this to be an issue. The food is probably described as modern European. The restaurant is split over two floors, although it only has about 15 tables so booking is advisable. They do a reasonably priced set lunch and dinner(between 6−7pm), a al carte is a bit more than you would usually pay in Derby, but well worth it. The wine list is extensive and they run a loyalty scheme to get free wine. I also like the Molton Brown soap and hand-cream in the bathroom. Highly recommended.

What an amazing place. The staff are always attentive and the food always tastes and smells incredible. Perfect place for a really special occasion in a nice location just off the beaten track. Keep up the good work.

Restaurant Zest is a high quality restaurant in the heart of Derby’s restaurant quarter serving fabulous Contemporary European cuisine. Tucked away in a beautiful, converted former stables building, the dining room is smart but relaxed and the atmosphere is fresh and welcoming. The quality and variety of both the menu and the wine list is good. They aim to appeal to many tastes and preferences and although the food portions here are not the biggest it is certainly a case of quality not quantity.

A smallish and modern restaurant, with excellent service and top quality food. It is a bit higher-priced than I’m used to, but having said that you definitely get what you pay for, as the food really is excellent, and the presentation is exquisite. There aren’t many tables, so you do need to book in advance. Being a smaller restaurant it’s perfect for a romantic meal for two as it doesn’t get too noisy or too crowded. The only reason I’ve given only 4 stars, is that a couple of people in our party(men!) felt that the portions were on the small side. Otherwise a very enjoyable evening!

Small restaurant — about 15 tables throughout whole building. We sat at the back in the corner and t was perfect. There is minimal choice on menu — 5 starters, 5 mains, 5 puds but this was just perfect. Quite expensive but worth it as the food, service and surroundings is perfect for an intimate couple’s night out. Book in advance as we only just got a table and booked two days before
