I believe this has to be the best Chinese Restaurant in Darlington. The menu does contain dishes not found on the standard Chinese restaurant/takeaway menus, the spicy medallions of Pork dish is a particularly tasty! There are other delights on the menu such as a lamb type of stew with aniseed, where the lamb is so tender and is falling apart. Yes the prices are higher than the standard Chinese restaurant in this area, but the food is so much better than the standard Chinese restaurant — it’s well worth the price.

Not the cheapest of restaurants, but definitely worth the money. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was lovely, fresh and delivered to the table promptly.

A fair enough place to eat, but can be expensive. Our party of 4 had a starter each, a pint of laeger, a glass of wine, a gin & tonic and a glass of water … one of my Party recommended the Monk Fish, so two of us had that, one had the sweet & sour lamb, which turned out to be pieces of fried(?) crispy lamb bits … with a bowl of rice for all, one of the party had a noodle dish. There was TOO long a gap between the ‘first’ and ‘main’ courses, maybe almost 15 minutes ! And the Monk fish, when it came in the two portions, must have been almost 4″ long, judging by the collective pieces in the two dishes :(Anyway, only one of the party had a ‘sweet’, plus coffee. The bill was just over £100 !!! A bit TOO expensive I thought, especially for the size of main portions, and although the service was sweet and attentive, I doubt if we’ll return at THOSE prices.

I have been eating at the Eastern Bamboo for 28 years ! Yes 28 years! The owners Raymond & Sally have worked hard to create what i believe is one of the very best and authentic Chinese Restaurants in the North East of England. The greeting & service is always warm… the food wonderful… The Peking Duck starter just the best… Those who have not eaten here yet have a treat in store!

In my opinion, this is the best Chinese Restaurant in Darlington. There is an excellent choice on the menu, either from the various Banquets or the individual items. Highly recommend the Mixed Hors d’oeuvres and the Beef Hot & Sour Soup! Great service, nice atmosphere & good value from money. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

In my opinion the best chinese in town for quality food however I found this quite expensive by Darlington standards. They will also provide a takeaway service if requested. The prawn toast is to die for! Staff are very friendly and always try to accomodate but book ahead if possible as it gets busy.

My wife and I went to the Eastern Bamboo having looked for sometime for a good Chinese restaurantr in Darlington and were very pleasently surprised. We were welcomed by the staff in a very friendly way and given veyr good service throughout the meal with just bthe right amount of attention(not too much or too little — they achieved that difficult balance so many restaurants fail to meet). The food was good and delivered freshly cooked and piping hot(not kept warm). We had the mixed plate starter which I would heartily recommend. Overall a good experience all round and we shall certainly return.
