I had a brief pitt stop here today for a Skype meeting and I can honestly say that I would definitely return in order to spend more time there! I rushed in in an absolute daze and grabbed a table and before I’d even sat down I was greeted with a smiling face and a chirpy question. In my haze I barked hot chocolate and water and received it promptly(I apologised for the barking — never a need for rudeness!) My hot chocolate was delicious and had a wonderful hint of cinnamon running through it. Sadly I didn’t try the food BUT my god it looked and smelt delicious and this more than anything is one of the reasons I’ll be going to back! An additional part of its charm is that the café is connected to the infamous vintage fashion store, Beyond Retro, so you can shop, rest and have a coffee and a bite to eat and then shop again. My full intention on my return. Watch this space for the review sequel: F&G: Beth returns. On your Unilocal screens in 2016!

The new egg café! Sadly, we did not get to try the eggs, since the kitchen closes earlier than the actual spot. Sad. But I did get a coffee, and as all Foxcroft and Ginger spots, it was strong and well made and I enjoyed drinking it. And the staff were friendly and really apologetic about said closing of café. And they were very chatty and I liked that a lot. This is attached to Beyond Retro so you can shop retro and then when you’re tired, eat a nice meal or get a coffee. It’s a good edition to the Dalston scene and I am happy it is here. And someday I will get an egg.

This review isn’t based on the food as I didn’t try any… just on the service. This Foxcroft & Ginger is right next to the bus stop I was waiting at, I had 4 minutes until my bus and was dying of thirst. So I ran in to grab a drink and made it clear I needed to be quick. I went for a can of something or other because it seemed like the quickest option and handed over my card. 5 minutes after giving it to him and watching him struggle with the card machine, the guy behind the counter finally announces that the machine he’s trying to use isn’t working and we need to go to the other one near the door where he spends a further few minutes fiddling around with that before he can put the payment through. I missed my bus, I missed the one after that and I’m not happy whatsoever. If you’ve got a problem with your card machine, communicate that to the customer and they can decide whether to take it or leave it. Don’t force them to miss buses because you won’t tell them what’s going on or give them their bank card back. Don’t get me wrong, the food looked great. They had salads, croissants, savoury muffins and truffle brownies so next time I’m in the area, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, come back and try the food. But for a first impression? Disappointed.

Great spot that’s just opened up in Dalston, next to one of my favourite vintage clothing stores. Just the kind of place you’d like to sit and work for a few hours, while eating quality salads and food. They have both breakfast and lunch here, and some lovely bakery items — including a mixture between a croissant and muffin called a «cruffin». Worth trying! However, I had to take one star off due to the music. Not sure about other Foxcroft locations, but over the course of a few hours it appeared to range from thrasher metal to top 40s. Normally this wouldn’t bother me too much, but it was so loud I found it hard to think past it. Quieter music = better vibes. All in all though, a great new spot in the neighbourhood.
