Waitrose’s Central Croydon branch can have a gold star. Well done chaps, you’re the best supermarket in the area. This isn’t a full size Waitrose, it has a limited range due to its small, urban site but you can buy the ingredients to make dinner from scratch, including seasonings and spices and that absolutely has to count for something. So while it sounds like I am somewhat damning it with faint praise, as the runners and riders are more like a donkey derby than the Epsom Derby, it only looks bad in comparison with other bigger branches, rather than the nearby Sainsbury’s and Tesco. They also have a sandwich counter for lunchtimes and a full range of lunchtime sandwiches. Conceivably, you could do a full weekly shop here but it is a victim of its own success, as queues at the checkouts can be long and frustrating at peak times.
