Whilst I’m not a regular user of Cradley Heath Library, I still feel quite protective of it. It has been there since 1909 and I’d be absolutely gutted if it were to go away. They have a decent stock of books and newspapers, though you’ll struggle to find many unusual or specialist titles on the shelves — it is mainly bestsellers. You can also order in titles from other Sandwell libraries if you can’t find what you are looking for. The staff are friendly, helpful and very welcoming. They are more than happy to handle queries and to help you out. The library offers free internet access and a host of community activities, including kids story times, PCSO surgeries, health drop-in sessions and reading groups.

My closest library may be the tiniest one around, just off Long Lane in Halesowen, but Cradley heath library really was disappointing, for numerous reasons. I was at a friend’s house and as I left, I happened to stumble across the library and decided, with my dissertation review in shortly, I’ll explore every possible avenue to find new books. I found nothing. Granted, my topic is Mexico in the 16th Century, but regardless, the selection was very basic and uninspiring; so much so that I’m surprised anyone visits full stop. Rant over, but if you are looking for a bit of motivation, this isn’t the place for you.

I sadly now have an iPad so i dont borrow books from here anymore but when i did i found my self having to request that the book i wanted was sent him from another library in order for me to borrow it out, but none the less i always got my book in the end. The selection of books here is basic and i dont think the library see’s as much action as it should, but being on the edge of town and even then, not a obvious building its seen better days. When i was staying with a friend to edit music videos around the corner we always used to pop in here to print stuff out using their computers and printers. Prices always seemed a bit high with a single sheet being up to 10p
