Whenever I decide I am going to treat myself to a chippy, I saunter in, full of excitement about my upcoming meal, until I see the sort of people who eat in chippies and the effect it has.
I was nearly put off my dinner the last time I visited Maxims and saw a customer so fat, his head looked like a tiny little bean on top of his huge fat body. I say nearly put off because I did continue to order a half a pizza supper and can of Irn Bru which I devoured as soon as I got home.

A good, solid old school chippy, it’s a source of both pride and despair for Glaswegians that businesses like Maxims are unquestionably among the safest in the city.
During my last visit here, the man behind me in the queue was certainly the most rotund creature I’ve ever encountered in my life. Thankfully I don’t come here to be healthy, and when all you crave is a bit of unhealthy stodge (with a pickle), you can be thankful that places like Maxim exist.
