A lovely little pub with a warm welcome and fresh, tasty food. Pleasant surroundings and a friendly atmosphere. Regular(popular) quiz night on Monday. A wide selection of real ales too. Plenty of comfortable seating available. Although food is not officially available as Monday evening is quiz night, the manager(Mo) was very accommodating with tasty sandwich and hot, freshly cooked chunky chips.

It’s such a shame, this could be a great pub. The location is fantastic and actually they do some interesting beers(albeit expensive). When I have eaten there, the food is OK but not great, and a bit pricey for what it is. The problems are it’s cleanliness and the attitude of the staff. On one occasion(granted this was over a year ago), Myself and friends arrived by car with our kids, parked in the car park. We were walking over to the pub, and they started asking for £20 deposit to park in the car park! for each car — But we didn’t have enough money to cover this demand It wasn’t just the ridiculous request, it was the attitude of the guy who was asking. Absolutely terrible. Suffice to say we left.

One of our ‘local’ pubs reached after a healthy walk along country lanes. Hearty food is served alongside the finest selection of UK& European Real Ales. The prices have to reflect how difficult the pub trade is at present. I have always found the staff friendly. Whilst the landlord is not the most gregarious person, he is(pardon the pun) a mild mannered, friendly and dryly funny person. The quality of the ale & the value for money of the food draws people back time after time.

Nice location but that’s where it ends. The floor is sticky, the seats are filthy, the so called beer garden looks like it’s been dug out of the blitz(if you can find it through the sea of beer kegs), the landlord could do with a personality transplant and the atmosphere is thick(read into that what you like). We explored this lovely village and found pubs with far finer ale, much better food and bar staff who didn’t look at you like you’ve been scraped off the street. To sum up the Top Lock would be difficult without using foul language so all I can say is terrible, avoid at all costs.

I have to say that apart from the beer selection and location, this place has very little going for it. Well overpriced and very average food, a moaning landlord, and a floor that is more sticky than a kid with a toffee apple!!! The menu’s are filthy and look like they have never been wiped down for 12 months — not a good advertisement to eat there. Its no wonder why most customers rush to head outside to the canal !!! We find a much better option is The Golden Lion just down the road.

The drink here is beautiful and the ange of ales is superb. Not so keen on the food to be honest as some of our food were not hot when we first got them. I think this pub needs modenising though and bringing up to date

Fine range of ales, including a smashing mild. Needs a freshening up inside, interiors have seen better days, and food is a bit hit-and-miss. I consider £3 a bit steep for a chip butty! Been here before, in summer, and I felt better about it then.

Where else can you feed the ducks and indulge your passion for ‘real ales’? Friendly staff, and reasonably priced bar food. Choose from Indian curries to Lancashire Fayre, all delicious and mouthwatering. Enjoy a drink outside by the side of the ‘seven locks’ on the Leeds Liverpool canal, watch the world go by, whilst staff will happily oblige you with the snack or drink of your choice. Real Ales and local morris dancers as well as live bands are often all part of one of Lancashire’s hidden gems of a pub.

One of the best selections of real ales for miles. Often up to ten different beers at the bar. Annual beer festival usually in October. A must! Good landlord and staff. Also Indian restaurant. Bar snacks include Indian food. Very good!(After a pint or so). Called Top Lock ‘cos it’s on the Leeds — Liverpool canal, at the highest point of a series of seven locks.
