We stopped in at the Lock & Quay for a quick drink. It’s beautifully lit on the outside at dusk, you can tell this pub has been well taken care of. The staff is friendly, the beers are cold, and the atmosphere is friendly. I’ve been twice now, each time I’ve seen regulars and families coming through. Wish we lived closer… we’d be regulars, too!

A lovely little pub. Tucked away between a bridge and canal, it’s a beautiful setting to visit an English pub. Beautiful décor and façade, it fits the bill for what an old English pub used to be. A wide variety of beers, liquor and food — I love visiting every time I get the chance to. Once called The Railway, over the years it has added more space, outdoor seating and, depending on the day and season, live music. It has a fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff and chatty locals. Again, a lovely little pub.

Situated near to the M61 and next to the Leeds Liverpool canal. The Lock and Quay has seen several reinventions and was formerly known as The Railway. In all honesty, the service varies. We have been in there on and off during the years, and the food has never been consistent. The best food we have had was when we had a dinner party for my daughter’s birthday, the service was good and the food well prepared and fresh. We enjoyed the pasta dishes and the steak was cooked as we asked. We have been at other times and to be frank the service was poor and food had to be sent back, far from the standard it could have been. Where food was advertised as fresh, it was clearly microwaved. After two bad meals we have not been back. Very good for drinks on summers evening as you can sit outside and watch the world go by.
