What a gorgeous location! We sat outside overlooking the bay, enjoying the surprisingly warm October air from behind the wind-breakers. My homemade potted crab with homemade mayonnaise was beautiful, and my husband’s pork pie looked lovely too. Great quality, fresh, home-made food with a menu that changes on a daily basis. Highly recommended!

The crown and anchor is situated in a lovely area in West Wittering, not too far from the beach. It is quite traditional especially from the inside with picnic tables in the extended outdoor area over looking the Bay. Service was fairly quick and the staff were friendly and helpful. The food came in no time! I stupidly, not reading the menu correctly, ordered haddock and chips-it was fish and chips in a fancy style. As I opt for«low carbs» most time, this wasn’t a good choice however, the chips were great. As I am not a fan of oily food, I can’t say that I enjoyed it much. The partner opted for the chicken breast burger which went down him in no time, so I’ll take that as a compliment towards the food on his side. I should have gone for the crab! The prices are off higher standard than most pubs, maybe due to the fact that there weren’t much around so it worked to their benefit. Nevertheless, the view was beautiful-sun turning red at sunset as the light reflects on the water, some boats sailing as some stood stagnant creating a picturesque view.

The Crown and Anchor is a beautiful old pub situated in Dell Quay, a gorgeous area on the South coast not far from Chichester. The pub takes a bit of finding and is definitely off the main commuter route. However, it was exceedingly busy on a Tuesday lunch time on a chilly late October day so obviously the word is out. If you are lucky(we weren’t) you will be able to grab a table by the window and take in the beautiful scenery while you lunch. The menu offers a good selection of pub food including such favourites as bangers and mash, gammon eggs and chips, pies and burgers, as well as lighter bites such as soup and a selection of freshly baked baguettes. The have numerous fish dishes on the daily specials board. I was tempted by the crayfish and crab open sandwich with fries. It was a pleasant surprise to find that the portion size of the fish far outweighed that of the bread. It was super tasty and very filling. The bar has a good selection of lagers, ales and wine, plus all the usual spirits. I chose to wash my sarnie down with a lovely pint of Hooky, an Oxfordshire ale. It’s definitely worth making the trip out to this pub but I would advise booking, especially if you are visiting in the summer. Also, request a table by the window if you can.

A Young’s pub with a simply stunning location on an inlet of Chichester harbour. The pub itself is fairly traditional inside, with wooden beams and flooring, and large windows in the seaward extension to make the most of the views: the beer garden adjacent is set along the sea wall, with panoramic views down towards Birdham, or out over Dell Quay itself. Beers include Young’s usual range and a guest. I didn’t eat here, and service for a pint was OK, but the pub has had a mixed reputation in terms of quality of food and service over the last couple of years. There’s a small car park, and some roadside parking adjacent, but it does get very busy at weekends.

I am a bit of a fan of Youngs pubs — not anything to do with the name but I’ve never had a bad meal in one or bad service and their beer is really nice. The location of this one is probably one of the best out of all of them — right near the bay ith some of the most wonderful sunset views around. Food wise, they cater for all tastes and always have the odd special on offer. Last time I ate there I had the lamb shank which is one of my favourite dishes and it was fantastic — really tender and the sauce was perfect. Great place for a romantic dinner in the summer and watch the sun go down.

I have just come back from a camping weekend in Chichester with some good old friends, and stumbled upon this place. We decided to have Sunday roast here and were not dissapointed. I had roast beef, served with yorkshire pud, roast potatoes, mange tout, broccolli, and butternut squash. Pudding was sticky toffe pudding and cream. The food was great, and the views from your table out over the bay are stunning. They serve food all day, and there is a sign on the wall that says, ‘we dont do fast food, we do good food as fast as we can’. If you are ever in the area, treat yourself.
