Positives: beautiful house. Delicious beers. Fantastic food. Great service. Great location(at the edge of the town) with alfresco seating which looks over the racecourse and the view is stunning, especially when you consider that the racecourse used to actually be a harbour. Negatives: parking is limited for such a busy pub so you may have to turn yourself away and drive elsewhere. Preferably, get a cab ride here.

Simply a stunning pub. We sat outside in the last of the evening sun looking out over the racecourse. It is a beautiful location. And the inside of the pub is also gorgeous. I didn’t spend long inside but the walk to the toilets involves walking past several different attractive rooms that are either part of the main pub or are for dining or private hire. Our bartender was very helpful and allowed Mrs F a taste of Salopian Pogo. Once she had tried it and pushed me to have a taste all the other beers were out of the running. Pogo at the Architect will probably go down as one of the best beers I have had all year, as well as being one of the most unusual sentences I have written. Relaxing outside in the fading light, taking in or surroundings with the most delicious of ales was the clear highlight of our weekend in Chester. My only warning would be… it is a little on the posh and expensive side. And stay well away if there is racing in Chester, as it is the nearest pub and will be packed!

The Architect is a beautiful country style pub right in the city of Chester. it over looks Chester Racecourse and is stunning inside as it is outside. it attracts the more wealthier crowds which is fine. it is owned by the same company as the Wharf in Manchester. It has a large terrace out on the front with great views of the racecourse for those summer months but it was a bit chilly whilst we was there so we sat inside by the log fire. A beautiful place.

Tried to get a look in last night but the bar was packed. This is the brand new offering from local pub company Brunning and Price They have landscaped a garden with a path down to the new ‘wing’ pavilion on the walls at the racecourse, built an extension on the back of the exisiting georgian mansion which was home to the celebrated Chester Architect Thomas Harrison while he was designing the new castle and grosvenor bridge. They have created a new patio wooden seating area to the rear of the house with good views overlooking the racecourse and abode hotel. Inside is a mixture of modern and tradition with plenty of rooms to explore on the ground floor. Toilets are upstairs on the first floor. There are a number of prints and paintings on the walls detailing some of the history. Parking is at the front of the house with a entrance from the ring road next to the abode hotel and roundabout. A good traditional food menu is available, but is a bit pricey, eating tables are to the front of the house.
