There is no debate when it comes to the quality of ice cream here, the ice cream is absolutely delicious with Choccy Bear being my favourite. I have been here recently and had 2 very different experiences. I went here with my friends children, 2 little boys under the age of 4. We decided to sit inside. The boys were taking their time picking and I got the impression the girl that was serving us did not have the patience for this. The boys picked ice cream in cones but when we sat down they didn’t want the cones so I went and asked for tub and spoons that I could put their ice cream in. The same girl that had served us pushed herself away from the counter, handed me tubs and spoons without as much as a smile never mind saying a single word. I did not enjoy this experience and was not made to feel very welcome with the kids, or at least that was my impression. I have since been here again with another adult and although I was served by someone different, the service was a lot better, friendly and welcoming. Love the ice cream but mixed bag when it comes to the service

Great location on the seafront close to a play park and carpark. Nice wee sit in coffee and ice-cream shop with lots of different coffees, teas, hot chocolate and soft drinks available. More importantly the vast range of delicious homemade ice-cream…my favourite is pooh bear… but there are so many to choose from. Only downside to this Mauds is that there is no public toilet or at least there wasn’t last time I visited and children have been refused the use of staff toilets. Being an ice cream shop at a park and a popular attraction for kids I think this is really important. Paying customers who have to leave due to toddlers wetting themselves is never a good thing.

Ah Maud’s. *Big Heart* Maud’s is one of those great Irish traditions, unique to N. I and all began in my home town. I had English friends over for the weekend and we treated them to some rather delicious pooh bear ice cream. I LOVE me some ice cream, don’t get me wrong I love Ben&Jerrys etc but I’m sorry, you just can’t beat Mauds(not even with a big poke ice cream!) Anyone visiting Ireland MUSTTRYTHIS! I can’t imagine living without it, Apparently pooh bear is unheard of only that short hop, skip, jump across the water, or at least they do a variation of it which consists of jaw breaking honeycomb and poor quality ice cream. Sounds atrocious! So lucky enough I live here then. But, Oh the decisions you have to make. Normally it is without a doubt pooh bear, but now they’ve started making chocolate bear! Like pooh bear, but with chocolate! What are they trying to do to me! I haven’t even got to their waffles, Drool. The ice cream must be something to do with our happy cows. Said friends were amazed how many cows there were in N.I. We moo’ed at a few of them, even offered them ice cream but they didn’t take the bait. I reckon they knew we were having a BBQ later… But back to the point, if you like ice cream, you will LOVE Mauds. Go buy some(mine’s a cone, ta!)

Maud’s the famous Northern Irish Ice-Cream and confectionary company, have this great little Ice-cream parlour facing the seafront in Carrickfergus. Most famous of all is the inimitable Poor Bear’s Delight(or Pooh Bear, as everyone calls it!) has been something I’ve got here as a treat since I was a small child, and continue to do so today. They have a large range of delicious locally produced ice-creams available, but this is always the one of choice for me. The shop also offers a range of handmade chocolates that you can but in a pack, or make up your own bespoke package to give to someone as a gift. There is also a coffee shop where you can enjoy a range of teas, coffees, biscuits and other sweets, if ice-cream is not really your thing.

Maud’s Ice Cream is the big daddy of frozen desserts in Northern Ireland. Yes, you’ll hear people talk about Morelli’s, but you shouldn’t be listening to those people, you should be listening to me. This branch of their standalone stores is right near the water in Carrickfergus and serves as a lovely wee café as well as an ice cream parlour. On a good day, the queue will literally be out the door. The variety of flavours is pretty good, but I don’t really tend to deviate from a waffle cone of Poor Bear(used to be called Pooh Bear, since it’s full of honeycomb, but then Disney got snippy and made them change it) with hundreds and thousands. Why mess with perfection?

I don’t care what anyone says-mauds ice cream is the best ice cream in the world! And the Mauds Ice Cream Parlour in carrick is lovely! Even just walking past it you can smell the ice cream and coffee-its hard to resist the temptation to go in! There are so many choices of ice cream(my personal favourite is choccy bear, a mixture of pooh bear and belgian chocolate) and nice coffee and snacks to be had. On a good day its lovely to get an ice cream and walk along the marine highway, and on a bad day its lovely to sit inside with a nice hot chocolate! if you haven’t tried this ice cream parlour then you don’t know what you’re missing!

Do you like ice cream, well don’t miss out on some Maud’s Poo Bear, it’ scrummy worth five stars on it’s own. But you’ll find lots of delicious flavour to choose from; beautiful smooth texture and did I mention the Poo Bear. Heaven!!! It is a café in that you can have your coffee and snacks instead of ice cream. You could miss this place, you have to continue along the Marine Highway pas the Castle and you’ll seeit on the right a little way beyond the Coast Road Hotel.
