We went here to grab sone quick drinks before going clubbing but when looking at the menu we realised that, for students, it may be a little pricey. Love bar inside was kept classy and original looking quite old which I really like especially as cardiff is all very modern now!

This place is possibly one of the weirdest places that I have seen that claims to be a restaurant type bar thing. The whole thing is just massively confusing. From the outside, it looks like nowhere you have ever seen, the only way I can describe it is that it looks like it’s still trapped in the 80’s with a mass of plastic flowers decorating the windows, what’s that about??? Once you’re inside it gets no better, this place looks like one of those cheap tacky cafes that you would find by the seaside but it’s pretending to be a classy bar and charging the prices of a classy establishment. The only reason I have ever had to go here is due to some University socials that were held here including a casino night, it was perfect for that reason, but the drinks were still on the pricey side and I still felt hugely confused by my odd surroundings. The food looks expensive here and I dare try it, but who knows maybe one day someone will buy me lunch here, then I’ll give it a go, but until then, I’ll give Henry’s a miss.

The fact that Henry’s has something for everyone makes it one dining destination no one should miss and if you’re yearning for some good food and drink, drop right in to one of their bright and stylish outlets. Each café manages to retain its individuality by way of a unique core idea and design. Delicious food is served all day, starting with breakfast, sharing dishes of tempura battered chicken, chilli nachos and baked camembert sharer, perfect for friends wanting a snack and a glass of wine. The host of tempting choices never fail to please. Salads, fresh burgers, sandwiches, Henry’s popular fish and chips, pastas, puddings, tostadas and chicken tikka masala add variety to the exciting menu. Desserts could include sticky toffee pudding and baked vanilla cheesecake. There’s an extensive drinks list as well and the Grand Margarita and Raspberry Caipirinha, is a popular favourite. Henry’s Bar and Café also offers wireless connectivity, which makes it the perfect spot for business as well as pleasure.

I’ve only been to Henry’s for lunch and have mostly been impressed thus far. It’s a nice looking bar and restaurant and there is a lot of seating available which means even at peak time you should be able to find a place to sit. I was really quite impressed with the food, especially a beautifully presented platter(it arrived on one of those long plates which make you feel a little bit special) which was extremely tasty, and inexpensive. The only thing that did ruin dinner slightly was one of the bar staff. A bloke, probably in his mid twenties, working behind the bar just wouldn’t keep his mouth shut. He spoke at a level which meant you couldn’t tune him out(ARGHHH), and spoke about irritating, banal nonsense. All the rest of the staff were doing their best to ignore him. I worked in a restaurant and this is one of the basics, speak at a low level and keep the personal conversations to personal time, or at least when it’s really quiet.

I have always enjoyed my nights spent here. It’s a good soid bar, although perhaps it doesn’t have anything wonderful or new to offer.

Henry’s bar purports to be a classy bar-restaurant, but I’m just not getting the restaurant bit of it. After my one and only dining experience at Henry’s, I wouldn’t bother again. It always strikes me as more of a bar than a restaurant in any case(except perhaps at lunchtime when lots of people eat there), but I was dragged there on a work meal one evening, and both the food(average) and the service(dismissive) were far from wonderful. On the other hand, Henry’s is fine for after-work cocktails, especially during Happy Hour(5−7pm, Monday to Friday) — they do a good Long Island Ice Tea, and for non-drinkers the homemade lemonade is lovely.

I have been to this place twice, for quite different occassions so just bear with me as I tell you about them both. 1. I came here for a meal with my boyfriend. The service was simply horrendous. The waitress did not want to be there(okay, so a lot of people don’t like their jobs but I’m paying to have a good night out so don’t ruin it please) which did kind of impinge on our evening. The food was pretty good but not incredible; it certainly didn’t make up for the delay we had in waiting for it. 2. I was quite disappointed when I heard that this is where we were going before the cheerleading and american football ball last year, before we actually got to the ball itself. After my previous experience I felt I’d rather go anywhere. Luckily for Henry’s, its proficiencies as a bar pulled its rating back up from 1*. I had a good time and I was happy with the prices of the drinks. The bar staff were friendly too. So, I’m never going back here for a meal. But I think we’ll be going here again before our ball this year and that’s alright by me.

In my student days, I liked a bargain. In fact I still do. There is an art to stretching the pound whilst not lowering your standards. If you are lucky enough to be avoiding the recession at the moment then let me recommend Henry’s café(a little misleading as it does have food etc but seemed a lot more like a bar to me.) A classy establishment right by the New Theatre. So in my more comforting student days my friends and I would hop down to Henry’s to take advantage of their two for one cocktails promotion. Most cocktails were priced just under £5. I’d always go for the Long Island Ice Tea and was never disappointed. Equally sour and sweet it was always a joy to drink. There other promotions that see a lot of beers etc priced at £1.50 from 8pm onwards on wednesdays. It’s a beautifully brightly lit place with a traditionally wooden bar. We’d never stay there as we would go onto more noisy places. However, you could do a lot worse than have a lovely chilled out night in this wonderful place.
