We had a great time at Revolution in Cardiff. The space is huge — and includes several«clubs» within a club. The décor is urban hip and funky. The cocktails were delicious and have an emphasis on vodka. We were in on a slow evening so one of the bartenders offered to give our party a tour of the massive space. Check out Revolution, you’ll love the club and its friendly bartenders.

I’ve heard an abundance of stories about this place. Many, many sodden sagas of fast romances and petty fights; tipsy tales of locked lips and fists. Consequently, when a friend of mine suggested we head here for a pre-theatre meal, I was a little reluctant. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the menu. Somewhat astonishingly for a bar which builds its reputation on vodka, the food was varied and truly tempting. The side orders also had us in a whirl of excitement and there were even some novel inclusions of Russia’s favourite spirit within the meals, a sign that the guys here sure do know a thing or two about flavour. My top tip would be make sure you look out for offers. Our food was all half price, and we each got a free drink in exchange for an email address — a fair swap if ever there was one. Although I would still shy away from visiting here at night, the bar is excellent for a cheeky afternoon conversation; my girl-mates and I have had some of our most scandalous conversations in Revolution’s secluded booths. If you ever want to spill your secrets, there are plenty of tucked away little corners to sit and gossip. These are delightful as long as you don’t think of the other naughtiness which has inevitably happened in this vodka powered venue, decorated in the style of a boudoir. Operating as a stylish place to grab some lunch during the day, ‘Revs’ as it is affectionately known as by regulars, really comes to life at night. The food sold at lunch time is nicely presented and really quite nice. Whilst it isn’t quite of the same standard as good restaurant food, it’s an advance on the ‘2 meals for £8′ you’ll find at various uninspiring pubs. There are also all sorts of deals available on the food, with students in particular able to benefit from cheap pizzas on certain days, members of University societies given discounts and so on. What ‘Revs’ is really known for though is it’s transformation into one of Cardiff’s most popular night clubs. With two dance floors, one on each of its two floors, and three bars, hundreds of people head here on weekends as well as certain week nights. It’s very smartly furnished, with stylish décor and trendy looking staff. There’s a variation of music played, although it wont appeal to everyone. Another major selling point is this mightily impressive selection of flavoured vodka’s and cocktails on offer, which add an element of fun to the evening.

Now I’m a fan of Vodka Rev, reminds me of my student days in Bath. So, when it was announced there would be one coming to Cardiff I nearly wee’d myself. Quite easily it has become one of the favourite night spots in the city and you can tell this by the sheer amount of queues the place gets. And we’re not talking a few people in a line we’re talking snaking hordes of people curling around the street for even a glimpse of one of those spectacular shots. My favourite is the palma violets, life its self starts to turn lilac. Now, the Cardiff Vodka rev is one trendy establishment with the décor still looking pretty spangley and new. In the week the big doors are all open and it’s just a damn cool place to hang out. Also the food is pretty cool too. I know I’m using the word cool quite a lot but that’s what you get with this type of über trendy type of establishment. On a busy night be expected to pay to get in, I think its around £3 which quite frankly is not bad for what’s available once in. Party on people!

A nightclub that does an absolutely roaring trade, Revolution is somewhere I try to avoid as much as I can for this reason. It does get mighty busy and the music is just not my thing. It will be busy on student week day nights as well as on weekends, a good tip is to try and buy yourself a queue jump ticket to avoid all this. The décor is really nice inside and I am rather tempted to try out their food one day, which seems to be on the slightly upmarket side. It is prettily lit with fantastic mood lighting and has alluring comfy booth chairs. There are two floors to this venue, so you have room to explore, it also has a large outdoor seating area, something which most clubs seem to lack in Cardiff. I really don’t like this place on a night time, but I’d still say to you, give it a try, you might like it.

Revolution can be found right opposite Cardiff Castle, just off the busy High Street. Since opening, Revs has become a very popular club to go to on a night out. However, with expensive weekend drinks prices that regularly seem to attract the more pretentious members of Cardiff’s business sector, I can’t help but find myself getting regularly wound up by the general atmosphere of the club. A particularly bad occasion I remember was a couple of years ago, when Wales played New Zealand in Cardiff as part of the annual autumn internationals. It has come to be expected that bars and pubs up their prices when a big match is taking place in the stadium, but having to pay £28 for round of four people is ridiculous. When other bars of the same calibre, such as Tiger Tiger and Oceana, can charge far less for the very same drinks, that was one round of drinks that left a very bitter taste in my mouth. While I have enjoyed some good nights out there in the past(particularly student nights, when there seems to be a completely different mood to the club), there have been far too may occasions that I have woken up the next morning with an empty wallet and nothing to show for it other than a beer stained shirt and a hangover.

One of the most popular clubs in Cardiff and a quick look at the queue most nights would confirm this. It gets pretty monstrous. I live just around the corner and the lovely clientele of Revs are responsible for me never getting a full nights sleep on a Wednesday night! There’s generally an outpouring of very loud, very drunk students at about 2−3am. It gets really busy on the standard nights too and every time I’ve been there it cost about £3 to get in. It’s pretty huge inside and quite plushly decorated. There’s a separate dancefloor area upstairs which is also used for private parties some nights. I’ve only been to Revs a couple times and the theme seems to be binge drinking. I was in there literally 2 minutes before I had 5 shots thrust in my face and was challenged to a race. Not one to turn down free drinks I accepted and duly lost. But only just. The rest of the night descended into madness and I seem to remember enjoying separare pitchers of some blue and pink concoctions respectively. Going by the amount I had left in my wallet in the morning, a conservative estimate would be about £10 a pitcher. In summary, if you’re not in a party mood, do yourself a favour and stay away from Revs, as you will hate it. If you fancy trying a couple of new cocktails, some dancing, and the desire to remember very little of it the next day then you’ll have to join the queue…

Although Revolution is a chain, they do create quite a striking place to enjoy a drink, with chandeliers and stripped wooden floors — and this one’s great location opposite the castle is another big selling point. It’s also close to the Millennium Stadium, so it gets packed out during match days or when there are concerts on, despite being really spacious. I should point out that I’ve only been here in the early evening, for after-work drinks and food, so I don’t know what it’s like late on. However, I can say that the décor is contemporary and stylish, with a huge central bar and plenty of seating(unless it’s really heaving.) For warmer days there’s also a small outdoor seating area around the side. As it’s a vodka bar, there’s a big emphasis on shots — but they also do cocktails, beers, and so on — plus food. If you’re going to eat there, try the stonebaked pizzas — even my colleague who’s Italian(and über critical of most pizza places!) was mad about his pizza here — although being a purist he disapproved of some of the topping combinations! If you’re planning an entire evening at Revolution, check out their website before you go; they do different themed nights, some of which are unlikely to appeal to all(e.g. the student nights).

I’m not surprised Sarah P said that it felt like all of Cardiff was in Revs because apparently they are! Every conversation on a Sunday/Monday morning about the weekend seems to mention«Revs» recently. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and went along to see what all the fuss was about. It was a Friday and the queue was out the door. We hung around for a little while before deciding that we; a) Really didn’t want to queue for a place if we weren’t sure it was worth it. b) Didn’t want to party with first years. It was like freshers week, only without the charm and sophistication. I gave it another chance on a weeknight(not student night) and this time it wasn’t so hectic. The interior was pretty decent and warm and had it not been for my preconceptions I would have probably enjoyed it. There is of course the small matter of the Vodka, if you’re a big fan there’s so many flavors to chose from in cocktails that will blow your little vodka loving mind. There’s even ‘Birthday Cake’ flavor, which I can’t tell if I love or loathe the idea of… I however was unable to sample too many of the delights without gagging after an unfortunate incident when I was 14 that has left me scarred for life. Even the smell of the stuff sends a shiver up my spine. I did manage to really enjoy a Purple Rain(honestly they are utterly delicious) which is made with brown apple vodka and blueberry juice. A couple of them and you’re hammered. Revs is alright, it’s sometimes even good, but it’s not great.

Absolutely packed on Wednesdays(student night) it frankly feels like all of Cardiff is here! It’s therefore very unsurprising that the queues here are long, and I mean long. Whilst Wednesday is officially supposed to be student night, I’ve found the crowd generally appears to be made up of six formers, which can be slightly off putting. As for the décor, they appear to believe that by spending a lot on the interior they will somehow gain an exclusive crowd(not the case). So unless you’re under 21 I’d avoid this place like the plague on Wednesdays. As for the rest of the week, the choice is yours, but personally I’d give it a miss.

Good to have a revolution in Cardiff. It’s one of the few chain bars I can stand. Worth a visit(including a drink and a dance)

Revolution bar is one of the newest clubs in Cardiff and is located opposite the castle. Its very large and spacious and has a very cool and modern design. The food is also very nice there and although ive only eat there once ive heared that it is constantly good. The menu is fairly extensive and there is something for everyone. Id definately recommend a visit!

Revolution is a vodka bar/nightclub opposite the castle in the centre of Cardiff. It’s massive inside and benefits from an upstairs club area, a small outdoors area to the side, a two-part main floor with two separate bars and some pretty large and cool toilets downstairs. There always seem to be bouncers on the door and they can get a bit shirty if you stand out on the street smoking or if you try to walk in wearing a beany or any kind of hat, but otherwise seem OK. The bar staff have been really nice every time i’ve visited(around 4 times now). The décor is undoubtably cool and funky and there is stacks and stacks of room and plenty of plasma screens. The cocktails menu is huge and they are fairly reasonably priced(and there are always lots of offers on to bring down the prices) and the shots are great fun(milky bar flavour anyone, or chilli if you’re feeling adventurous)…the only thing is I don’t think that they are very good cocktails! A lot of them taste the same(of chemicals!), some of them aren’t mixed properly(so you can only drink half) and some are just nasty. The cocktails seem to be a bit like the place itself — gaudy and no substance(sorry if that sounds a bit harsh — this is just my personal opinion. Lots of my friends love this place). Alright for a works night out or a friend’s party but if i was out and wanted a decent cocktail and atmosphere i’d get myself down to Buffalo on Windsor Place. Oh, and they serve food but i’ve never managed to catch the kitchen so i can’t comment!

This is Cardiff’s newest bar and I have to say they have done a great job of it. The interior is very contemporary with a great outdoor terrace. Venture upstaires and you enter the club part of the venue, but it can get packed up their as anyone who is anyone wants to be seen in Revolution at the moment! The one downside of any Revolution bar is the price. Even on a Thursday night you can expect to pay high prices.

Revolution is the newest club/bar in Cardiff. In my opinion it is the second best after Oceana. From the outside it’s modern sleek doors and soft glow really drags you into this venue and in no time your ordering a round ice cold vodka shots. The main bar and chill out area is downstairs and the nightclub is upstairs. I usually hit the chill out area for a few hours since the seating is so spacious and there are no arguments over lack of chairs! The nightclub upstairs and get over crowded at times but usually there is a good vibe and I could quite easily stay there all night enjoying every inch of this club and every type of vodka they have going!
