Really enjoyed my Mexican chicken. The guacamole and fresh salsa were as good as any texmex in the states. Chicken was grilled with good flavor. Spicy rice was a little dry. Corn in cob was mushy. Coleslaw was good and creamy. Service was quick and friendly. Def would go back.

Mexican food for people who have lost their taste buds in some tragic industrial accident.

What an amazing Mexican restaurant. Stumbled upon it by chance when looking for somewhere to go before the cinema. Came inside and sat in one of the booths down the side of the restaurant. Not crazily busy but still a good buzz in the air. Ordered our food and it was on our table within 4minutes flat — so quick my boyfriend and I were worried it wasn’t ours or might not be that great. I’m happy to say our worries were not needed — the food was just what we wanted. Chicken served on a sizzling plate, and chilli with excellent mexican rice. Just right. We will definitely be visiting here again when we both have more time to sit and enjoy the food.

Amazing, after ordering, the food was here in under 5 minutes still piping from the grill. The waiter seemed in pain if he wasn’t smiling but that may have been the sizzling plate in his hand. Décor is authentic, well authentic looking anyways which adds to the charm. Reasonably price across the whole menu and to me is just quite unique. It’s been a long time since i have walked in to a restaurant and thought, i cannot compare this to anywhere else i have been before. Loved it

Chimichanga’s is situated in the very modern ST Davids 2 amongst a plentitude of restaurants fighting for your trade. There was a nice mexican almost spanish feel to the place and as seems to be standard with Mall type restaurants, me and my dinner companion were practically sat on the couple next to us. What always bothers me about this is that there is a vast array of tables free to be seated at, however the waiter was more than happy to seat a couple who were shown to our laps, to a different table when they asked for it. Being a rarity for myself and my partner to go out to restaurants, we decided to do the unthinkable and have 3 courses. To start, we had the cajun chicken tenders which were basically your standard breaded chicken pieces, there were 3 of the little blighters, which meant a problem, not being too happy to split the third chicken tender with my partner, I pretended there were 4 and said I didn’t realize as I binged it down my throat, so they can’t have been that bad. For main, I had the chunky beef chimichanga, this was amazing, you get guacamole and sour cream with a little mini salad and black beans, the chimichanga could have been slightly more fried — I’m realizing I’m not sounding too healthy in this review — but the tortilla strips on the top made up for the lack of crunchy. At this point, I felt a bit sick, but I knew I had to carry on, the partner had promised me 3 courses and this was what I was to achieve. To finish, I had the cheesecake and I must say, this is one of the best cheesecakes I’ve ever had, but at nearly £4, you kind of expect something special to make up for the fact you could have bought 4 whole tesco value desserts for the same price. All in all, this was a nice ambient venue despite the cramped seating arrangements, the food was lovely, but came at a price, personally I prefer Las Iguanas and am still looking for my new fave Mexican restaurant.

For Mexican classics such as Fajitas, Burritos and Nachos, Chimichanga serves up generously proportioned dishes that are tasty, and look and smell delicious. Their Portobello mushrooms are a treat, and they do some specialities such as crab cakes, chipotle meatballs, and Mexican Paella. I found the service here fine both in terms of speed and customer service, and the staff were very friendly. In the same vein as Las Iguanas, they aim for a fun and lively atmosphere, serving up a range of cocktails to accompany your food. There’s also a couple of things on the menu for sharing if you go there as part of a group, such as the chicken nachos — which is great if you’re on a night out and you want to have a few drinks but also a bite to eat to soak up some of the cocktails.

I was excited when I heard about a new Mexican restaurant opening in Cardiff, we’re really lacking in good Mexican places here. I tried it a couple of months ago and was fairly impressed with it. It’s not like Mexican food I’ve had previously(made by Mexicans in the USA and no, I’m not talking Taco Bell!) but it was good all the same. The service could have done with speeding up a bit but the staff were friendly and happy to help. I’m still waiting to go back but have not yet had the chance.

Um I too love Mexican but was really disappointed by this place. The restaurant really lacks any sort of atmosphere(even at 8pm on a Saturday night) and all the tables seem to make you feel on display. Despite the place being quiet, the waitress wasn’t quick to get to us and it seemed to take a long time after we ordered our drinks for them to arrive. When we ordered our food though, that did come out about 5 minutes later. I had a pretty good grilled chilled on top of vegetables while my boyfriend had a quite disappointing Chilli con carne. Price wise I really didnt think the food was value for money. Paying ten quid for chilli and getting a really small, average tasting portion is a real let down. We didn’t stay for dessert because a massive, loud group got seated next to us and it was totally ruined what was meant to be a romantic dinner for two. I have to say I prefer Chiquito’s!

I love Mexican food. Daquiri’s is the closest Mexican restaurant to my house but in the interests of trying a new place(and also trying to walk off some of the food that I will eat) I went instead to ChimiChanga. I was a little apprehensive when I first entered because the other main Mexican restaurant in my life is Chiquito’s. I detest Chiquito’s — which you can find a review about on my profile. Anyway, since my awful experiences with ‘them’ I have steered away from chain Mexicans as far as possible. I was so impressed, though, with every aspect of this place. The staff were really friendly — they came to us quickly and took our orders, but without rushing us. The food itself came out fast too — it was piping hot(which I love) and utterly delicious. The bill was a tiny wee thing too, for the amount of food we had. Oh, wonderful all round!

Cheating on Chiquito’s was hard for me, but I do like a Mexican restaurant and will go where my stomach tells me to. This particular Chimchanga’s is brand new in the brand new St. Davids 2 shopping mall. It feels to me an essentially slightly more upmarket Chiquito’s with almost the same menu. The layout of the place is filled with plants and dark wood, very modern but with an air of class about it. Food wise I went for my usual, a Nachos platter with the lovely to begin with for £9 between us and chicken fajita’s for my main course. Oh how my belly moaned at me afterwards. the food, which is very well presented and utterly delicious comes out in mounds! Such generous portions make for a glutton such as myself very full and slightly in pain. The staff were lovely here, laughing and joking away it felt as if they enjoyed what they did and not an act at all. I really liked the place for that reason alone and will defiantly taking my better looking half again with just one instruction for her. Please tell me when to stop eating as I wont.
