Babylon Barbers, Tanning and Beauty Salon is probably the most recent addition to the plethora of barbers, hair salons and beauty therapy establishments at the city centre end of City Road. It has been open less than a year, but seems to be doing pretty well, despite the pretty stiff competition in the immediate area, (Coray & Co., one of the longest standing and most respected salons in Cardiff, is literally next door, and has had a fifteen year head start on Babylon).
Babylon is not trying to compete with the likes of Coray & Co. Instead, it has positioned itself to contend with the more competitive end of the spectrum, that being the more budget style operation, of which there are many on City Road. Cuts cost around the £7.00 mark, and a cut and highlights can be performed for as little as £15.00. Students get the obligatory discounts, and can have their hair cut for as little as £6.00.
Tanning options include ‘powerful tubes’ for £0.50 a minute, and they also have a nail technician.
The business is, quite wisely, being developed organically. Revenue is being reinvested, and so I anticipate that we will see quite a few developments and improvements over the next couple of years.
