I think I have to concur with the other reviews of 411. I hated it here. I was here for such a short space of time that I’m struggling to think of something to write. After going through a palava with my ID where the bouncer seemed to think it was fake, we eventually descended the stairs to Hell. I was already annoyed as I showed the doorman my drivers licence and have never had a problem with using it before. Possibly because it’s not fake. But when we got in there was hardly anyone in there(for a Saturday night in Cardiff that means there’s something gravely wrong) except for a couple of late 20s yuppie-types who immediately began trying to chat up the girls we were with. We stayed for one over-priced drink, became sick of the dead atmosphere and RnB music pumping out and got the heck out of there. And we paid £3 to get in!

If your idea of a weekend blowout is frittering a couple of weeks of wages on bottles of champagne while chilling to Ibiza and R&B sounds, then bar-slash-club 411 is a custom made destination. For the rest of us, its charms are as limited as the furniture-bereft interior — although they keep most students out as an over-21s joint and bring a taste of America via New York-themed cocktails. Thanks to its location on St Mary Street, 411 is probably destined to last longer than most of the seemingly endless stream of urban music bars in Cardiff that have shut down before they’ve barely become a fixture on the nightlife landscape. Still, at least that means that the boom-and-bust money-flashing types they’re seemingly trying to attract will have a tiny degree of stability in their superficial lives.

The name, 411 is a desperate attempt to be hip and cool with da kidz. Unfortunately that saying was so 1992 sister. I’ve made some bad decisions recently in my club selection and should really listen to my gut instinct a little more. I guess if your into RnB etc then yea, this could be a cool little place to visit. However I’m too old and moany to try and tolerate a place and it’s inhabitants like this. I didn’t stay very long again but the décor was pretty cool tbh. It’s pretty expensive aswell as it tries to give that VIP feel to the place. Bah humbug and all that, it’s not for me.
