I was traveling for work and booked this hotel because there was a discount rate that got me within my approved spending amount but only at a non-refundable rate. I showed up and the first room they gave me had a broken phone and the carpet looked like it had not been vacuumed in months. The second room had a working phone and was slighly cleaner but it was bad enough that I checked out and moved to another location anyway. Unfortunately, they were unwilling to refund any portion of my stay due to the rate I had booked. I would recommend staying away from this place. The Double Tree by Hilton has similar rates and is so much nicer(better security, secure wifi v. open network, clean, has a fitness center and pool) and better situated in the City Centre.

Our client recommended this hotel, which ended up being fine, but not great. Rooms are comfortable and decently sized, but at least my room had a very spartan inner spring mattress that probably had seen better days. I typically really like hard mattresses, and this definitely was a firm mattress, but it had also developed a bit of a cave-in. Bathrooms were fine(although no vanity on which to place anything, unfortunately). Breakfast was very nice, although they did not have any black pudding, which my English coworker and I were a little disappointed to find. The rest was nice though — all the things I love and plenty of marmalade. The rate was… maybe a little high for what we got, honestly, but not crazy. Hotels in Germany later on this trip were less money and honestly a little better. There does seem to be a dearth of «common» chain hotels in the area though, so I might stay here again just because it’s convenient to a lot of things in town, and in a good area for walking to dinner and pubs.

Lovely Hotel, right next to the Cambridge Judge Business School. A short walk form the train station and the town centre too. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The décor is very old fashioned. It was probably considered classy in the 90s. My room was HUGE! And while I did get a special offer rate, I think even at full price it’s very good value for money given the size. Wifi connection was non existent in my room however.

The Royal Cambridge has a great location in the city, and is in a lovely old building. Inside, it has a rather old-fashioned feel, which is a combination of a kind of faded grandeur and a pub-like atmosphere. The rooms are decent. I did find my single bed would move on its casters whenever I sat on it, but it was comfortable, the room equipped with the things one would expect, and the bathroom clean and well-appointed(with a bath as well as shower). The breakfast is pretty disappointing. Where in recent years they offered some bespoke things, freshly-cooked, there is now only a buffet that befits a low-end hotel. I asked if it would be possible to get a couple of vegetarian sausages. The rather diffident member of staff went to ask her manager and came back saying that the only things available were the things out on the buffet. If I go back, I will definitely look for a bed-only rate and use one of Cambridge’s abundance of cafes to get a nice breakfast.

Great location, almost next door to the Fitzwilliam Museum, and a short walk to King’s Parade and the city centre. The hotel was lovely, the room was spacious and clean. All the staff were wonderfully helpful. The check-in lady was very friendly and quick. The room was pretty big for a single, with a television, clean bathroom, and even a mint on the pillow. I think that sums the place up, it seems to have a very traditional approach. Everywhere you look there is panelled wood, brass fittings, and patterned carpet.
