Disclaimer: I am a King’s College Choir groupie. When I was a student at Cambridge, I bicycled over to the Chapel to hear the evensong every day, like clockwork. This is one of the world’s premier boys’ choirs and experiencing King’s College evensongs, services and/or concerts is an important part of the Cambridge experience, in my humble view. Since I have family in Cambridge, we always spend Christmas Eve day waiting in line to hear the afternoon service — the one broadcast by the BBC worldwide every year. For this privilege, one needs to arrive in line before 6:00 a.m. There is always a group of intrepid fans who appear the night before(one comes every year from Switzerland) so that they can be at the front of the line — for prime seating inside the chapel. I cannot recommend attending at least one evensong highly enough. [See the web page for specific times, etc. — and check to make sure the boys are singing. A few days a week they are not — and it’s men only.] Finally, I learned that the choir has its own YouTube station now, with 100 or so videos of the choir performing at Christmas and other times of year. Worth a look/listen!
