Warm atmosphere. Good beer, friendly people, and the food’s not half bad. There is a nice smoking area out back and a nice fireplace inside. There is generally an older crowd, but maintains fairly mixed. Some nights the tables are set up for cribbage, and the beer and cider selection is constantly changing. There’s always something new to try. Along that note, they brew their own beer and host beer festivals, featuring 50 plus cask ales brought in from all over, and they roast hogs and stuff

If you like decent British ales from small breweries around the UK then this is the place for you. They have 8 hand pumps which change frequently. Along with the Dove, the One Bull and the Old Cannon, this pub marks a significant improvement over most pubs in Bury St. Edmunds, which is after all Greene Kings home town and therefore brimming with IPA and Abbot. The Beerhouse does food, although it is not as extensive as their sister pub, the One Bull. The Bury Beerhouse had a spare shed out the back so have opened their own micro brewery — Brewshed. They are currently perfecting a Pale Ale and a Best Bitter which are solid and tasty but are designed for mass market appeal. I’m looking forward to when they start experimenting with some more adventurous ales. I only have 3 small criticisms of the bar: a) Too many similar session ales — I’d like to see one pump dedicated to more adventurous beers — strong IPAs, Black IPAs, Stouts and Porters etc. b) I would like to see a decent British lager from a small producer and some more adventurous keg ales on tap — perhaps others from Europe or perhaps the USA. c) Get a small fridge and stock it with some interesting bottled beers from around the world. This is currently my favourite local pub, just wish I had time to visit more often.
