I am sure, almost positive in fact, that Walkabout would not be my scene on a Friday or Saturday night. But to happen upon it just in time to catch a mid-afternoon rugby game? I was very pleasantly surprised. The space was big, and the tables(this is important) clean and not sticky(whee!). Various seating configurations, and a massive screen to accommodate even the most die-hard of fans(and many of them!). Bathrooms were plentiful and(this is also important)…clean and not sticky. A lot of staff on hand for drink needs, and… …a really really super burger! I was surprised at how happily I mowed the burger down in its entirety. The fries were meh(pro-tip: go for sweet potato fries… I nicked a few from my neighbour and they were far superior) but the«Aussie-style» burger with beetroot, a fried egg, avocado and a whole lotta other gear atop was… perfectly delicious. Like, «enough to make me want to return for burger alone» delicious. In and out with some drinks, a great game watched, and a significant fill-ya-up lunch for 15gbp? Hey, sometimes it’s nice to get outta London! Unilocal note: if you’re a real die-hard for the game, tables can be reserved in advance!

I have been aware of this place for many years having frequently used the commercial rooms opposite on a regular basis. For some reason i do not know i have never decided to take the plunge and go in but about a month ago i decided that what with the wetherspoons menu getting a bit samey now and not too much competition in the five pounds or so after work quick bite to eat stakes i decided to go for it. Immediate impressions are pretty much of a more sporty wetherspoons really without the pensioners nursing the same pint for hours on end. The food while not being the widest selection was very good. particulary the burgers which are freshly made to order. and the barbequed meat. steaks etc. is very reasonably priced. This is very much a place i would go after work with friends for a chat and a bite rather than a evening meal for which i would obviously up the budget and therefore my expectations accordingly. Overall i found the place very agreeable and returned returned three weeks running with my workmates and look forward to doing so in future

Oh god, Walkabout actually offends me. With its sticky floors, terrible music, cheesy themed décor and often quite sordid clientele(on one night I saw what looked like a sleazy old man attempting to seduce a young, absolutely wasted, girl on her own and a girl giving her boyfriend a lapdance while he tried to take photos on his phone of me). Needless to say that was my last night and I most certainly have not been back since. I can’t comment on what it’s like for sports events but if the bar and club are anything to go by, probably not the most civilised of pursuits. Screaming, drunken punters, vomit in all the toilets, cheap drinks spilt down your back… the Walkabout experience is more about the depravity of the British Friday night than an imitation of Australia.

This doesn’t feel much like Australia at all, Australia was really hot and sunny and covered in beaches… this is just a massive dark pub with TVs everywhere. Sports sports sports. I actually feel sorry for Australia that the only thing you need to do to pass yourself off as a representation of Australia in this country is to constantly show sports and serve cheap booze in a tacky pub. I have Australian friends and this is the half truth. I wouldn’t eat here unless you are five pints in and scraping together the change in your pocket to buy anything that will line your stomach. They do sometimes play good music here, but it is usually drowned out by whatever sporting event is on. But that is something this pub does do well, it creates a great atmosphere when large sporting events are on, like the rugby or football world cup. I mean it gets absolutely packed, but everyone there is usually just after a good time and a lively place to watch the game in. You can usually always see a screen; just don’t expect to sit down. It’s good for students, mostly freshers and stag/hen do’s.

Good fun watching sport here, there’s often a great atmosphere created. They seem to take pride in cutting the sound to a game as soon a half-time hits or the game ends which can be annoying. Beer is reasonably priced and the food is not too bad.

I walked into this walkabout for the very first time last weekend as I was with a couple of friends and we wanted to watch the rugby. Next time I think I’ll get a few beers from the supermarket and watch the match at home. I’ve been into Walkabouts in other cities before and the this one in Bristol is no different. It’s big, sticky and full of jocks watching sport and being rowdy. I got there around midday on the day in question and what struck me first off was the unmistakeable whiff of stale puke emanating from most surfaces around the bar area. As I couldn’t find a place to sit down and had to stand close to the bar to avoid being in peoples way, escape from the smell was a little difficult and more that a little off putting when drinking my pint. Good for big sporting events as they attract a lively crowd that can add something special to those can’t be missed sporting events like world cup matches. Wouldn’t really recommend going in at any other time.

Can you drink five double vodka and cokes and still remain standing? Can you take your shirt off and scream like a lunatic? Do you know what Australia is? If you can answer those questions affirmatively then you pass the test to be a punter at walkabout. The Bristol branch is much the same as any other. There’s a bar that’s mobbed from approximately 9.00 till 11.30 every evening, lurching students out on their AU night, and lots and lots of cheesy music. It’s fun, I imagine, for some people. I however, am not one of them. I don’t like having beer poured down my front and I don’t like screechy hen nights. It is reasonable priced for Bristol city centre, particularly the cover(it’s as if they want to lure you in), though. Also got a quite a good atmosphere during the day for watching a game of rugby.

This is, I’m sure you’re aware, part of the not so subtle Australian sports bar chain. It’s basically big, brash and boozy, with a clientele to match. The alcohol’s pretty cheap, as is the menu(of the burger and chips variety). I’ve never been here of an evening(or on a particularly busy afternoon), but the punters were still quite shouty as they enjoyed the big screen action. They also have lots of sections cornered off with widescreen TVs, which means that if you want to watch a minority sport(such as cricket) when there’s a really big footie match on, you may be able to catch it here on one of the smaller screens. That’s about as much as I can say to recommend this place.

Not too bad a place for a drink, except when its a friday/saturday night when it gets too busy for comfort. Good place to watch sports(especially Rugby) on a saturday. Mediocre food, mediocre beer but a good atmosphere on match days.

Spent ages driving around looking for this bar on a Saturday night and its tucked away up an off road side street along Corn/Wine street so ask for directions if you are not local. Eventually gave up and went somewhere else but came back the following day for the football and was impressed with the amount of football screens the bar had! Not the best Walkabout I have been to but still a good afternoon out. Found that they didn’t really have a lot of chairs considering football was on and people were having to stand infront of people that had got there early enough to get seats. Pavement outside is not very well made and can be slippery when wet as my friend discovered! A good afternoon out, nice food but staff not very organised with who they serve first and tend to serve people they know first!

A reasonable place to have a couple of drinks and eat. They also have Sky Sports here and show most sporting events(especially England vs Australia ones) which keep it lively. There is a dance floor at the back which is quite handy too.

Not a fan of this walk about at all!!! You can buy both food and drinks here and they often also hold functions there too. The dance floor isnt great and nor are the toilets which are, on the occasions i have been in there, dirty! Drinks are reasonably priced in there and so is food but when i have eaten in there in the past it has been cold and not particularly nice, so wont be eating in there again soon!

It is a gimmick and not really even a good one as it isn’t true to Australia. It is a place with cheap drinks and is always packed full of locals who are after the cheap booze and big screens for the football. It is a good location for Aussies and the like to gather and watch international games, but the place is always completely full of drunken twats so can be a bit annoying.

My mate had a job as a mystery shopper and one of her assignments was to go to Walkabout with £20 of free drinks money for her and one other(me). No problems with the bar staff/service but the place is chav-city. If you are a larger lady(like my friend) be prepared for some abuse. She was constantly groped and/or insulted by groups of drunken blokes, who seemed to think any woman walking through the door was fair game. I was shocked that people in the 21st century behaved like this, but my friend who goes to a lot of city centre bars in her line of work tells me this is the norm. No way. Where is my Taser?!

Brilliant club/bar. Cheap drinks and full of all mixes of people. Downstairs plays old school and a bit of rock, and if that doesnt take your fancy then upstaris is full of r and b. Nice members of staff and good value for money.

Oh yes! it’s those ozzys again. The walkabout can change from the place you just enjoy a few quiet ones in the day to a cheesy, bustling cattle market in the evening. if you just want great fun with like-minded individuals walkabout is a great place to go. It also offers a nice change from the same beers on offer in most of the bristol pubs with the imports of some very tasty australian numbers. Maybe not the most classy venue but if you are in the right frame of mind you will have a cracking night.
