This particular branch of the Slug and Lettuce is my favourite by far from the other’s I have been to, and the main reason is to do with the venue itself and the location. From the outside this restaurant/bar looks like somewhere you’d get on a holiday resort, which immediately puts me in a good mood! It’s directly opposite Vodka Revs too which always has a buzzing atmosphere, so you feel like you are right in the middle of all the trendy bustling summer evening action. There is a really lovely seating area outside the front of the restaurant, and I’d recommend this place to people in the summer months in particular, because if its warm enough to sit outside then its definitey worth it to enjoy sipping a cocktail with some music in the background and the sunset — my idea of a chilled out drinking time! Onto the inside and the food… the interior of the place is very chilled out and relaxing, with comfy leather seating and plenty of table space. The food here is in my opinion not amazing, but is above average and tasty enough — its not somewhere you’d go for a special occasion but for a catch up meal with friends it’s ideal. Prices are also reasonable, and they often participate in a 2for1 offer which involves you printing off a voucher and bringing it in — so its worth checking this out online just encase you’re in luck! Friday and Saturday evenings are the best times to visit this place as the atmosphere is buzzing and good fun, especially around 9 o’clock onwards, so it’s a good place to grab a few pre-drinks before heading into town, and I am definitely a fan!

Firstly, I have to admit that(along with the other two reviewers), I wouldn’t consider venturing into the Slug & Lettuce on a Friday or Saturday night, as the«Corn Street scene» isn’t really my bag. Having said that, I have been here quite a few times on a weeknight and have always had a very pleasant experience. Upon these times, the place is pretty quiet and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. There’s a good sized outside terrace at the back of the bar, leading onto St Nicholas Street, which is great on a warm summer’s evening. They have plenty of patio heaters as well, so it’s a good bet if you want to try and squeeze the very last few drops out of summer before autumn comes round far too soon. The food is actually pretty good here, and it’s great value if you go on a Monday when everything is 50% off. I recommend the goat’s cheese and roasted vegetable tostada — very tasty. This place isn’t bad — just learn when to avoid it.

This is part of the nationwide Slug & Lettuce chain you’ll find up and down the country and like it’s brothers and sisters, it is a little hit and miss depending on 1. Where it happens to be located, and 2. What time of day you’re going there. Being on Corn Street, this one couldn’t be worst placed on a Friday or Saturday night as it’s the street where all the lager swilling stag and hen nights seem to flock to. If you do walk in here at this time, you’ll find yourself in a packed bar full of chavs and really loud, non descript dance music. Not for me. During the week however, or even during the day on Saturday, it is quite a pleasant bar serving reasonably good pub food at fairly reasonable prices. It sort of benefits from not having a TV or Sky Sports in that respect, so you know it’s a fairly safe bet for a quiet lunch time snack.

The Slug and Lettuce is a large city centre restaurant and bar. Being on Corn Street you would expect loud music and lots of lager drinking and that’s what you get. They play the music much too loud for me, and the efforts to be trendy can’t make up for the fact that I can’t hear myself think. What makes it worse is that everyone shouts to make themselves heard over the noise making things worse. They have tried to be a little bit sophisticated, with funny patterns on the wall and lots of wood. I’m not sure that they pull it off, and if you come here from somewhere like the swanky Rummer round the corner you’ll probably be underwhelmed. The food is all right, though. They do simple things like sausage and mash best. It’s open from 10 am so in theory you could come here for breakfast, but I can’t imagine they do much of a trade at this time of day. The Slug and Lettuce is loud and I think tries a bit to hard without managing to quite convince. Not my sort of place.
