One of the first appealing businesses to colonise this far-up stretch of Gloucester Road, Sage is a pretty green haven of gifty purchases. Over my time in Bristol I’ve noticed that Gloucester Road is extending further and further up into Bishopston. Once a down at heel corner of Bristol, Sage is one of several up and coming businesses(along with the cosy Chimp House and artsy Golden Lion) turning Horfield into a very desirable place to be. Sage features all the usual kooky homeware that shops of its ilk tend to purvey. Greetings cards rub shoulders with jewellery and all manner of other trinkets. There are some great, sophisticated designs and all the items have clearly been tastefully selected. A great place to stock up your home.

It is both a blessing and a curse that Sage is situated so far up Gloucester Road. I would defiantly visit it more if it were in a more prominent location but the blessing is that I don’t spend all my wages in one visit! Of course the location also means that Sage doesn’t have to compete with other shops of a similar nature and it can be appreciated for what it is; a charming gift and homewares shop. Products include greeting cards, jewellery, chinaware, cookery books and garden accessories. I particularly like the baby blue and pink spotted teapots and quirky silver jewellery by Tales From The Earth. The cookery and lifestyle books cover topics such as Mexican dishes and ‘glamping’(that’s glamorous camping to you and me) and are great gift ideas. The only thing stopping me from visiting this shop more often is the price tag. The items in this shop quite expensive for what they are but obviously when you by from Sage you are supporting independent designers, jewellers and artists which is great but this place is more of a gift shop to me than somewhere I would by all my trinkets at.
