Great café. Really friendly service albeit sometimes can be a bit slow. Good coffee, cakes and salads!

A kooky little café on Chandos Road, the heart of Redland, Rubicon is a fantastic place to come for a very frothy cappuccino, some gorgeous chocolate cake, and a very relaxing, quiet atmosphere. Their«secret garden» out the back is not quite so secret, what with the big sign on the front door saying«come and sit in our secret garden!» but it’s worth them shouting about it, because it’s a lovely little suntrap out there and a good place to bring your friends on a sunny afternoon. The service is really friendly and careful. My coffee took a little longer to materialise than it would in other cafes, but it was eventually brought with such care, and was so creamy and well made, that I instantly forgave them for making me wait for it. They also have lovely toilets. This is something I always look out for because, however nice a café, a visit to a dodgy ladies’ room can seriously colour your evaluation of the place. But the Rubicon loos are lovely, with gorgeous Sanctuary handwash and hand lotion.

Rubicon Café is utterly charming, but it does this without being strictly traditional. It is the antithesis to the coffee house chains. Every detail is perfect from the fresh coffee, made from the finest beans, the reasonably priced hand made chocolate truffles, the breakfasts, the warm and vibrant interior, the friendly staff… even the loo is well kept with nice hand wash and they’re ultra clean! The only flaw is the garden is a little bit bare at the moment; the plants are mere sprouts, but it would be harsh to criticise a new place for falling victim to mother nature’s necessary germination time. The outdoor gets a lovely bit of sun and yet manages to feel private and enclosed. Rubicon is the best way to start your day… or finish it!

The outside sign suggested, ‘Come and enjoy the sunshine, good food, cake and drinks in our secret garden’. So i did. I really like the colour scheme — all very chocolatey! The Café specialises as being a chocolatier and this meant i just had to try their hot choclate — it was supreme! They have a divine range of cakes and pastries, but their savoury food is just as delicious. They do great breakfasts which are high in flavour and low in price. All in all — evn if you aren’t a chocolate-lover, Café Rubicon is definately worth a try,

This is a fairly new coffee shop on Chandos Road. For such a residential and quiet road, there’s an awful lot of restaurants, bars and coffee houses. Rubicon is the newest kid on the block, and offers a full range of hot drinks — I recommend their hot chocolate, it’s divine — breakfasts, lunches and cakes. I’ve come here on two occasions; one for the aforementioned drink, and one for breakfast. The breakfast was hearty, not greasy, good tasting, and excellent value for money at just less than a fiver. The interior is a bit too modern designed for my liking — there’s quite a bold colour scheme, introduced at the front with pink writing against black façade, and continued inside with lime green coloured walls. Apart from this personal opinion on colour, Rubicon is a good café.
