While visiting from the US, our friends took us here on a Saturday morning. The coffee was very good, very strong and they have a small but nice menu. However, this is clearly not a restaurant. The counter girls were very confused, bringing drinks to the wrong tables or walking around holding cups of coffee, looking lost. And worst of all, we ordered immediately after our friends but they were served and nearly finished with their breakfast and we still had no food. I went up to the counter to enquire and was told it was«on the way.» I then saw the counter girl tell the«chef» what to make so our breakfast order had never been put in. If you are looking for a leisurely cup of French coffee, stop by. But don’t come in if you are really hungry; it might take 45 minutes to get anything to eat.

I popped into Café Du Jour earlier for a bit of Whiteladies respite. The first thing I noticed was a pretty dodgy smell! The second thing, the temperature; man it was HOT! Unfortunately I made eye contact with the waitress who gave me the ‘what can I get’ya’ nod, so I felt obliged to stick around for at least a cuppa. I took my coat off and sat down, wishing I could take more layers off. Why is it so hot in here? I went to the counter, order a cup of herbal tea(I cant remember what kind, it was lemony) and a slice of coffee cake. 10 minutes later I went back up and asked if I could have my cup of tea and slice of coffee cake. 5 minutes later it arrived. By the time it arrived I needed water to rehydrate, not hot tea! Someone please turn the heating off! All in all not a great experience. I’m giving 3 stars because the coffee cake was good and the tea, when I got it, was lovely. The staff were also very friendly — and apologetic.

What a find! Near the Sainsbury’s end of Whiteladies this café has lots to offer, and as I discovered this week it opens from 8am and is a great stop for breakfast. I enjoyed a lovely cup-of tea and a delicious lemon muffin at a very reasonable price. The seats were very comfortable, with options of more formal table and chairs for those on breakfast meetings or sofas and coffee tables for a more relaxed visit. It is worth noting the large outside space; it looks like it might be a great sun trap and the perfect get-away for lunch hours! The food looked very inviting, the service was lovely and I was very tempted by the raisons, Poppets and bags of dried fruit on offer — it is nice to see a café offering something a little bit different! I was very impressed by Café du Jour and intend to go back a lot!

French by name, French by nature. Café du Jour is sophisticated, relaxed and serves the best coffee you’ll find on Whiteladies Road(and it’s fair-trade too!) The interior is just as chic as the name suggests. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere is always merry and their food is delicious. It’s certainly a place for ladies who lunch. Personally, I think their lunch time baguettes are one of the best things on the menu, but you won’t go wrong with one of their generously sized deserts.
