Health food shops are definitely on the increase as more people become aware of the benefits of living the good life — and I think it’s a great thing! This wonderful little shop on Fishponds Road is no exception to the mould, offering many healthy alternatives to the public: the breads for example, ranging from delicious homemade granary numbers to gluten-free and other allergy conscious brands, or the wide choice of non caffeine teas. Environmentally friendly cleaning products, bean and sprouting kits, free range eggs and so many more delicious, good-for-you items grace the well stocked shelves. In the corner there’s a pin board — a vital place to find out about alternative healings and therapies nearby. This is a conscious store, aware of its footprint and encouraging you to follow suit. Very refreshing and highly recommended.

I you’d prefer an impersonal service where the husband and wife owners don’t chat to you for hours and they don’t sell lovely ecological and health food products — then head to Tescos I say. But if you seek an independent health food store on the Fishponds rd in a rustic setting, then Nature’s Genius is for you. Wooden shelves are spilling with supplements and vitamins at cheaper prices than Holland and Barrett. One of the biggest selection of herbal teas in the city, and they stock loose pulses, cereals, flours etc. If yoyu’re a student at the St Matt’s campus of UWE there’s really no excuse not to eat healthily and cheaply now!

This is a little independent health food store that has been open(I think) just under a year. I often buy food supplements and vitamins but having been disappointed by the quality of Holland and Barrett I’d turned to the internet for more reputable brands. Upon finding this shop I realised that they sell a lot of the reputable brands and products that I buy. The owner runs it with his wife and they are both very helpful. If they don’t stock something they are happy to consider it, and if they do stock something but it’s not on the shelf they will order it in for you there and then(takes around 1 – 3 days to arrive). Unlike Holland and Barrett or other BIG chain shops the staff actually know their stuff and can advise on certain problems or phone their suppliers for advice, which they have happily done for me before. The service is very friendly and there are other things in the shop to cater for organic/healthy lifestyles such as loose produce(rice, pulses, dried fruits) healthy drinks and healthy convenience foods. Although the shop is not that large, nothing is crammed in. It is well laid out and everything is easily accessible. If these kinds of products interest you and you like a personalised service check out this shop.
