I recently found myself squinting a little when trying to read things a long way away, I didn’t really notice until I found a few of my friends could read things with ease that were a bit of a struggle for me. So, I thought I had better get an eye test. I was recommend this place by a friend; if you actually get round to having to buy glasses then this place is a little more pricey than the chain opticians that we know so well, but what you get here is a pretty unbeatable personal and friendly service.

What a friendly place! I’m fortunate enough to have normal eyes that work properly, but my wife doesn’t which means a couple of weeks ago I was dragged here on a Saturday morning with a hangover to help her choose some new bins. Unfortunately when we arrived, the window to this shop had been smashed in, as it transpired some drunken idiot had been on some repressed rampage the night before. The assistant tried to turn us away(reasonably enough as there was a massive pile of glass sitting on the floor) but her helpful nature got in the way and she allowed us to come in «for a minute» which quickly stretched to 15. She then let every single person who arrived in that time in too. And she even bought my story when I told her I definitely hadn’t been responsible for the drunken vandalism the night before in an attempt to avoid a Saturday morning trip to the opticians.

Like a family-run eye doctor from days of yore, the service here is personal and smiley. My husband is both long and short-sighted, wearing lenses and glasses(not at the same time!) He visits this place on a monthly basis, where he’s treated like a veritable king(well his eyes are anyway!) The big chain opticians should be worried — Lynne Fernandes have the expertise, price, care and NHS approval — plus perfectly located near the Bath road for all glasses-wearing south Bristol residents. Make it your mantra: ‘Stay local!’
