Good Fryday’s is a chip shop on the busy traffic light junction in Downend, opposite Lloyd’s Bank. Parking can be tricky here, unless you use the supermarket carpark round the back. We had the traditional cod and chips, which came in at £4.95 for a standard portion. They give you the option of super sizing it for a few pounds more. It wasn’t freshly cooked, it came from the heated cabinet so the food temperature wasn’t as high as it might otherwise have been. The fish was good quality but it was very heavily battered and the batter was very bland and tasteless. Its all handed to you in nice strong boxes so easy to get home.

Ok fish and chips with friendly service. Dropped points due to being a bit overpriced and let down by its opening hours which are short to say the least, the last few times I have tried to go there it’d been closed.

This isn’t the best fish & chip shop I have been to but it was still good food. The place itself is quite small but it does have seats inside and a few seats outside. It was the first time I have been there and there was a queue of people, which to me is always a good sign. Prices are pretty average for most fish & chip shops in the surrounding area, 2 battered sausage with chips is £3.50 so not too bad at all. The food was pretty good, like I said not to best but was still tasty. Although the curry sauce was quite bland. It’s a family run business and all the staff were lovely and friendly. Worth a trip if you’re in the area.

When it’s one of those days and you can’t be bothered to cook, today was that day. I often drive past this chip shop and thought this time I would give it a try. It didn’t disappoint but didn’t leave me with the wow factor. The staff were nice and polite, service with a smile is what you always want. There’s plenty to choose from the menu, I just went for a good old sausage and chips. There’s plenty of parking available on the high street. Prices are good, match most other chip shops around the area so no complaints there. Overall a Nice chip shop with some good food. Would recommend if in the area.

Shortlisted for the Chip Shop of the Year(results in January 2010), this is a new shop that came about when local Jason Honey was dismayed that his local chippie was closing down! That’s dedication to the fish n chip cause that i can really support. Although the high counter seems a little off-putting, the staff are cheery and confident in their food. The chips are great — my boyfriend thinks they are a little greasy but I thought that was the best bit! Lots of flavour and taste. The fish was good as well. The only problem for me is that it closes quite early compared to the chippy in Fishponds where I often end up, and not open on Sundays.
