They love their coffee and the enthusiasm is real. Well worth a visit to this independent café typical of Bristol.

Since I started working from home, I’ve really hardened to caffeine and become a big too fond if coffee. In fact, I’ve become quite the critic and know my favorite places in most parts of Bristol; Full Court Press being one of then. This little shop just around the corner from st nicks market sell some if the best coffee in the centre if Bristol. The menu is simple but they sell a couple if different types of coffee. Last time I went I went for their own blend which was really good. It was quite strong though. The décor inside isn’t really my cup of tea(excuse the pun) it’s very white, feels a bit cold and isn’t somewhere id chose to work for an afternoon. It just doesn’t feel overly comfortable. But it’s a coffee ship that sells amazing coffee — so it works!

This is a shop, owned by people who drink coffee, and more importantly, love coffee! Truly a hidden gem in the Bristol coffee scenario, secretly tucked in opposite the Bristol City Council Registrar’s Office. The flavours are lovely, starting from the coffee and ending in the cakes. The owners are passionate about coffees and it’s the coffee you pay the price for. The atmosphere is clean, tidy, function based, minimalistic and warm. The cakes supplied here, is not manufactured by the shop but resourced from the local Harts Bakery. Supporting local business? Checked! The service is quick and it’s the only coffee shop in Bristol where you can spoil yourself indulging in varieties of Lattes, they cater. The cinnamon rolls are absolute superb. Oh, I forgot, if you are lucky, you can have the owner’s puppy as your cuppa companion, playing with you. Well, that made our day!!! Stupendous customer service and vast filter choices. The only negative point, not much place to sit in. But, come on, it’s a coffee shop, and it’s smallness only adds an extra warmth to its feel good atmosphere. If you are stickler for good coffee, this is the place you want to be — you get up, close and personal with the story and the provenance. Fully recommended!

It’s simple, Full Court Press do coffee right and they definitely know what they are doing. Even if you don’t have a deep understanding of coffee like they do, they will patiently explain the menu options and flavours. I’ve been in too many independent coffee shops who are impatient with customers and expect a certain level of knowledge. This place is the exact opposite, very welcoming. The menu is another indicator of how much they know. It’s not your average coffee menu with each espresso drink listed. There are only four blends, two espresso and two filter, simple yet the flavour profiles are nicely detailed. Espresso can come with milk but the filter is served black. I get the impression adding anything to the coffee is not an option and have heard Full Court Press is insistent that milk not be added to the filter and sugar not in any of the drinks. Personally I agree with this but fair warning to those who take sugar in their coffee. I ordered a flat white and one of the filter options. Both were incredibly delicious and smooth, especially the flat white. Plus the latte art held it’s shape all the way until the end of my cup, a sign of proper milk frothing and technique. The filter was actually very sweet despite not having anything added. I can definitely attest the quality of our drinks to the skill of the barista. If you’re in Bristol searching for coffee, make this the first place you try. You won’t regret it.

We read about ‘FCP Coffee’ in a blog recently, not realising how new the place actually is. The friendly guy with the beard told us that we were visiting on ‘day nine’. On arrival, we were greeted by the barista, who talked us through the various coffee roasts. I opted for the ‘vanilla/fudge’ roast, while my partner went for the ‘Red Brick’ roast. Both were very nice and came in 12oz cups for £2.50 each. We’ve read that the cakes and pastries are supplied by Hart’s Bakery, so they’re probably going to be good! We stuck to the coffees today, but will go back when we have more time to spare. The atmosphere is a little cold, which is odd for such a small space, but it’s likeable and the staff are very friendly.
