Deambulating along Currynation Street in a heady daze, the ale froth and fermented mothballs of my afternoon hufffing session began to take their toll. It wasn’t long before my long-suffering stomach started invoking the names and honourary titles of legendary foodies like Raymond Oliver, Epicurus and Jay Rayner. Not to palaver my palabras, I was hungry enough to raise an orphaned pony, ride it like a used fleshlight and fatten it up on Tesco ready meals before gorging on its inanimate fly-ridden corpse. Ah! But how to ease that pesky belly rumble that is more familiar than step-incest? My pregnant wallet had the answer in the form of a question: «We’ve been shammed by Northern Rock, scammed by Western Union, and slammed by Southern Rail. Whatcha say we go and get jammed by Easton Taste?» I complimented her on her excellent taste(whilst correcting her illogical and glaringly erroneous spelling) and she rattled with salubrious joyfulness. About a yuga and a half later, I was wobbling at the end of a table on a sturdy highchair ordering bhunas and bhajis like some sort of deranged eunuch. Perusing the drinks menu after such thirsty bellowing, I was left with the distinct impression that I had stumbled into a B.Y.O.B.(Bring Your Own Binge) establishment, without a single drop to tickle my kidneys. As luck would have it, my wallet’s waters broke and I quickly drained her mephitic inebrience into a gleaming glass before taking a galloping gulp. Then I assembled my knife and fork, kissing my hanking wand(a handy spoonerism) and cacking half a lung in the process. I sent my plights a-roving when the plates started arriving. The other patrons could smell my quickfire burst of appreciation but it was soon masked by even finer aromas like steaming coriander and red stuff. Their rogan josh made me the life and soul of the chapatti. It may be called E.T. but there’s no need to phone home. Instead, give your nan a call and try and blag a bitcoin or two for another vault of lime pickle. And the wallet? She gave birth to a beautiful 10% tip that weighed only 2 pounds… dead now of course.

I have eaten many times in this cosy little restaurant in the heart of Easton and have never been dissapointed. The staff are friendly and not in your face and leave you to enjoy your meal. It would be wise to book if you wish to eat here as it is always busy, which has to be a good sign. My favourite restaurant. Doesn’t try to be anything other than a simple unprentious eating place with excellent food at very reasonable prices.

Like most of the businesses on St Marks Road, Eastern Taste has been around for a long time. Over the years it has built up a sturdy reputation, and so can get quite busy on any night of the week. It’s better to book rather than chance it. It offers a broad range of North India and Bangladeshi food and consequently lots of dhal and paneer dishes for the vegetarians as well as plenty of great meat options too. The menu is pretty static, which means that you can go back for your favourite meal without running the risk of being disappointed. Being small, it’s unsurprisingly unlicensed, but offers a good range of non-alcoholic beverages. If you prefer to bring your own there’s a small corkage charge. The décor is adequate and traditional with low lighting preferred(something I personally don’t like about a lot of old-school Indian restaurants as I don’t see well in dimly lit conditions). But this is the only thing that detracts from an otherwise pretty faultless dining experience. If it’s a low key environment with fantastic food at really reasonable prices, then Eastern Taste cannot be beaten.

Eastern Taste is more of a Bangladesh restaurant than an Indian one and despite not knowing how authentic the food is or having another restaurant to compare it to, I thought the food was delicious and well worth a visit. The restaurant itself is pretty small, but the food is cheap and cheerful, and food done with a smile and in a wonderful home cooking style that I very much enjoyed. It is also a bring your own establishment(which I’m a fan of) so you really can have a great meal here at a very reasonable price. From what I can remember it has a pretty good selection of vegetarian meals, but not being vegetarian and not eating a meal without meat, you’ll have to take the word of a friend who was mightily impressed with their selection. I had the chicken biriyani personally, and it was fantastic.

This is by far the best indian in the whole of Bristol, without a shadow of a doubt, and I have tried quite a few! A mix of Indian and Bangladeshi makes for flavourful dishes which aren’t overwhelmingly spicy. A tiny little corner venue on St Marks Road, you will need to book at weekends as it gets very busy. They accept large group bookings — I’ve been here with 15 other people and we had a blast. Food was fantastic for everyone and served all in good time. If it is full don’t panic — you get a 10% discount on takeaways! Probably the most attractive thing is the price — the food is very well priced, about £8 for main courses, but they don’t serve alcohol so you don’t get stiffed for lager like at some indian restaurants. Yep, a Bring Your Own! There is an off license across the road and they will charge you a small cork fee(or get a screw top and they won’t!). My favourite is their Balti dishes, oh and they do the best naan bread as well. Mmm, what time do they open again? The details: Saturday lunch is by appointment only They have said recently they are open on Sundays but it was closed the other weekend. Call first rather than counting on it.

Eastern Taste set up shop on St Marks Road long before Easton became a destination diners would come to from outside the neighbourhood. They haven’t tried to keep apace with more image concious eateries but have maintained a solid line in Bangladeshi food. I couldn’t vouch for its authenticness but I can vouch for the tastiness. The vegetarian selection is solid and their sag paneer is to die for. I also highly rate their bhunas. But more importantly it’s a small place with personal service that is never intrusive and certainly never veers the other way to brusque. I hope they maintain their loyal client base and attract new trade from the other establishments that are cropping up near by. Good sized portions and very good prices.

This is a very cosy place. It’s a humble restaurant and I like that. Food’s tasty and the staff is very attentive. There’s always a nice bunch of people eating there, creating a relxed atmosphere. Food’s pretty good as well. I really enjoy eating here, in fact I am enjoying remembering it so much, I think I might call up my friends and arrange a meal here soon.

Nestled in the hub of the bustling St. Marks Road shopping and dining area, the Eastern Taste Restaurant conjures up delectable Indian and Bangladeshi dishes. Full of flavour and reflecting the home cooking tradition, this Bring Your Own establishment also offers a takeaway service. My mouth is starting to water right now as I remember its chicken biriyani and the peshwari nans are out of this world. There’s the usual selection of Tandoori, Balti, hot, medium and mild curry dishes. Vegetarians are well catered for and a choice of side dishes. Prices are extremely reasonable with a 10% discount on menu prices for takeaways. I’ve always found the staff very charming.
