These guys don’t get much business and are trying really hard to attract the clients. Delicious meals, prompt and personal service, very reasonable prices, very good special offers, really can’t find anything bad in them. Still, the restaurant is half-empty at the best. Really don’t know what the problem is, the food is the most delicious I’ve had in Bristol so far. They do excellent grilled food and eastern dishes, which you won’t find anywhere else. I have been there a few times and will be coming back. Just love their food and prices. It’s not a romantic place but for takeaway prices and the quality of food how can you complain? Well done, guys.

I first came across Bosphorus in Cardiff, and then discovered they also have a restaurant in Bristol. While this means they must be a small chain, they each feel fairly unique — since the one I ate at in Cardiff has a waterside location very different to this one on Baldwin Street in Bristol. The smell of charred meat is what probably draws a lot of customers in here initially, particularly in the summer when the doors are open onto the street — but for me it was the promise of one of my all-time favourite Turkish dishes: Imam bayildi, which translates as «the imam fainted» and is made with aubergine stuffed with onion, garlic and tomatoes. The cavern-like interior is thoughtfully decorated if a little over-the-top, with mosaics and freezes on the wall depicting scenes from ancient Turkey. The mezze selection is wonderful and tasty, and the main dishes — although a little meat-heavy — have plenty of seafood options and are equally delicious. The most disappointing aspect of Bosphorus is how quiet it often is, and reading other reviews it seems not everyone has enjoyed such a good dining experience as I did, and this could account for their lack of popularity. What’s great about Turkish restaurants in general, however, is how passionate the staff tend to be about their country and cuisine. I always end up in conversation with the waiter about Turkey, finding out where they’re from and which dishes they were brought up eating. The staff here are no different — very friendly and engaging, and very happy to stop for a chat.

From the outside Bosphorus admittedly doesn’t look like it would amount to very much, but once through the door, it is actually quite a nice restaurant. The food is okay, a little overpriced for the quality maybe, what they really need is some customers! There were a few tables there when I last went passed on a Friday night — but on a Friday night it should be packed! Perhaps if lots of people started going here it could become a really nice Greek restaurant? Perhaps not. If your willing to take a bit of a chance its worth a go though I probably wouldn’t take someone you wanted to impress here!

To say that the staff are relaxed would be like saying David Beckham can sort of kick a football! My wife and I had the ‘Sultans Feast’ and about halfway through felt well and truly feasted out… but we pushed on and managed to try the main but had to admit defeat and take the remains(well over half of it) away in a doggy bag as we did not want to waste any of it. The food was well seasoned and cooked and I would recommend this to anyone. Not the easiest to find but if you do it is a treat.

As you walk into Bristol and pass over the Bristol Bridge, the first samples of it’s culinary delights are less than impressive. Bosphorus restaurant appears large from the outside, and is also large and empty on the inside. The serve traditional turkish food, and the staff are pretty friendly and helpful. The meals are distinctly average, but make for a good fill up if that’s what you’re after.

I think you generally expect most decent restaurants to be reasonably busy on a Friday night, but the last time I was in Bosphorus it was empty except for 2 or 3 tables which didn’t help the atmosphere very much at all, or my expectations of the food. The staff were friendly and welcoming however(probably glad to see some customers no less) As you enter the main dining area one of the first things you’ll notice is the naff plastic wall decorations of ancient figures, buildings and mock stone effect, this is beyond tacky and would be more at home in an amusement park. Again this didn’t fill me with much confidence. I ordered the cold mixed mezze starter and the house white. Followed by some sort of lamb dish, can’t quite remember as it was instantly forgettable. To be fair, the food was slightly better than I anticipated, but nothing special.

At lunch time, if you are an early bird the service could be slow, as the staff usually arrives around 12(and lunch is served between 12:00 — 15:00). They have an incredibily cheap(about 6 pounds) lunch set menu that includes a starter and a main dish! The food was well cooked, but in my case the service was slow. I was served a delicious platter of olives with some bread while I was waiting for my order. Around 12:45 they said they had to wait till the grill and oven gets hot enough. Apart from its slowness, the service was good. The decorations and atmosphere were good in general. I am sure this place should be very good for dinners!
