This is another book that you shouldn’t judge by its cover. Yes, it looks a bit dodge from the outside. Yes, it probably needs the restaurant equivalent of Trinny and Susannah to give it a makeover. But the service and cuisine served up inside are anything but shabby! We were welcomed very warmly and shown to our rather comfy red velvet seats by the chatty friendly waiter. It’s a bring your own, so you can bring along your favourite tipple and they only charged 50p per person for the corkage, which is pretty damned reasonable. They also had some exciting looking lassi, which I jealously spied on a fellow customer’s table. The food menu is dizzyingly vast, full of all the faves and peppered with a few undiscovered gems. We started with prawn purée and fish kufta(we had no idea what this was before ordering) but turned out to be a zingy fragrantly spiced fishcake. Both were cooked to perfection and gone in a matter of seconds. For main I went for chicken achari, a tangy little citrusy number, which packed a tasty punch and left me wanting more. Only thing I would say, is that I would have liked a bit more chilli all round. Capsicum quibbles aside, it is lip-smackingly scrummy curry at prices that will make your wallet smile.

I really missed a trick with Asian Spicy. I like my food packing a punch and sometimes I’m a little let down by Indian restaurants who underestimate my abilities and experience with hot spicy food. To that effect I can often be heard asking for my food to be ‘Asian Spicy’, but for some reason I just forgot when ordering. Instead I just said ‘make it as hot as you can’ and OK so it wasn’t ‘Asian Spicy’, but I was certainly not disappointed! It’s a BYO beer, which I always appreciate as you can bring your own favourites. The service was fast and efficient, just the ticket when you have to get to the theatre!(And the clocks 5 mins fast which also helps) Couldn’t fault the Sag Paneer or fish kufta, delicious to the end. I have to return, not just cause the food was good, but so I can smile and say ‘Asian Spicy’ at the waiter when he asks how spicy I want it!

There are three types of people in the world. Asian Spicy people, Indian Fast Food people and those with no preference. I am not an Asian Spicy person. Nor am I ignorant enough to not formulate an opinion on the conundrum that has been confounding some for millennia. That’s not to say I don’t love oil. I do. After the divorce I spent many a dark night gorging, gouging, gurraging, guffing and giff gaffing my way through some heavily spiced treats. Their vindaloo. Far from spectacular. It does however warm the guttywuts when your penchant for scorpion chilli milkshakes has run dry. If you want a heart murdering slap of butter with your Indian rice sauce I’d wholeheartedly agree that this is your place. If however, you live according to the rules of Sam Hay-Hophet(go on, admit it now) I’d skip to the king of restaurants: INDIANFASTFOOD.

Went here for takeaway. The food was great, really tasty and a good amount. A good selection of food and flavours at good prices. The food was really good but we didn’t quite know how to answer when the waiter asked us questions such as «How much do you earn in your job?», «So you two live together but you’re not married — why?», etc, whilst we were waiting for our food. It was good that he was being friendly and engaging, however it was a bit odd, but didn’t detract too much from the enjoyment we got from the food.

Fantastic little Indian restaurant on Cheltenham Road, close to the Arches. I don’t know what it is about Asian restaurants but I find them either to be rather modern and trendy or covered in dodgy carpets and clashing colours. Asian Spicy does fall into the latter category, and also has a weird double-glazing style shop front, but don’t let that put you off. The food is delicious, the service attentive and the price reasonable — even more so if you’re a student as there are plenty of offers on takeaway and eat-in meals. All the food is so bright and colourful and the dips and side dishes are divine. On a weekday you’ll probably have no trouble getting a seat but on weekends be sure to book as the place can fill up fast in the evenings.

As far as Indian takeaways go, this one is great! They do all your classic favourites, and often they will give you extra free sauces and papadoms which you can’t say no to! Asian Spicy is both an Indian restaurant and takeaway service; the restaurant is fairly small, but cosy and warm, and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. It doesn’t tend to fill up so there is generally no need to book in advance — but there are always customers there and I have yet to see it completely empty! The menu is very reasonably priced — you can expect to pay around £5 for a curry — and this restaurant caters brilliantly for students. All students receive an extra 20% off their takeaway service, and a 10% discount for eating in! Non-students also receive a discount of 10% for ordering takeaway if they pick it up from the restaurant. As well as being cheep and cheerful, they will order to your door for no extra charge, as long as you spend over a tenner — in my experience they take around 45 minutes to deliver, which is pretty standard for any takeaway delivery service! This restaurant is a little gem, and I have been ordering from here for a couple of years now, it’s that good! I have yet to eat in, but the place is cosy with a good atmosphere so I’m sure it would be an enjoyable experience!

Cheap and cheerful indian resteraunt. Giving you exactley what you want, good selection of food, fast service and tasty dishes! Get a table booked in if your planning a 7.30pm Friday or Saturday visit or you may have to wait a while. Students, pay attention! Get a good discount and have a break from those 19p Baked beans that have been keeping you alive for the last few months! If you want to enjoy the food in the comfort of your own home then the take away option is pretty fast, especially if you ring ahead, good service, always with a smile.

Good paneer cooking is hard to find, but it’s here. The Asian Spicy’s Sag Paneer is as good as it gets; a conniosseur’s delight. Plus friendly staff and sensible prices: what more do you want?

I was quite shocked after reading Adam S. review as I have had no problem what’s so ever with Asian Spicy. In fact I have literally just sat down from a Friday night takeaway from them myself and I was very impressed. At 7.30pm on a Friday night our food arrived after 25 minutes and everything was in order, and they did include some complimentary poppadoms! The food is so flavoursome and each dish is so varied in taste so you can never get bored. Portions are large too. The staff are pleasant and never have over charged me or been rude. I honestly think Adam S might have just had an ‘off day’ with them. Top tip: take your NUS student card as you get 20% off!

This is a lively and cheap Indian restaurant located down on the Cheltenham Road. I initially found it when looking for somewhere to eat before going to Jesters. I rang a mate who lives nearby and he said Asian Spicy straight away. It was an excellent shout as all the other Indians nearby were empty due to the early hour, whereas this was busy regardless with a much more welcoming atmosphere. The food is also reasonably priced with plenty of special offers. From 6pm-7pm every day, you can get a curry, rice and naan for just £7, while on Wednesdays you can get a set menu all night at the special offer price of less than a tenner. Warning, you may want to arrive early for this as it’s very popular. Indeed, you could book a table, and if you do it online you save 10 per cent on your bill.

Really authentic grub from this place close to the Gloucester Road in bristol, authentically English anyway which is what I am after after my recent trip to India Thought the food was very tasty and a great price at £6.95 for a curry, rice and naan bread of your choice. well worth a visit.
