Friendly run pub which gets pretty busy around the weekends. Large selection of booze, which must be one of the cheapest in Brighton, you can easily get a pint of Ale for under 3 quid, lager and cider is well priced also. The thai food can be a little hit and miss, depending on who’s cooking it i think, but its worth a try. The best pub in Hanover in my opinion, and its just round the corner from my house, what a touch!

Great ale. Great music and friendly staff. The only thing is the stools! There are lots of them. A great local for a lot of discerning drinkers in the area.

This is a nice little local, I really liked the atmosphere when I visited last week(twice!). Whilst I agree that I had a long wait for my pad thai(they were very busy and there only seemed to be 2 people working in the kitchen, one of those who was waiting tables also), I have to say that I thought it was really tasty for the price. The food is not pricey at all. A bottle of Aspells blush did cost £4.20 but I would say that is pretty standard now. Thumbs up from me.

Like previous reviewers, I thought that The Reservoir was a swanky Italian type eatery. Imagine my surprise(and stomach rumbling) when I arrived expecting to eat, now found myself in a pub. Drinking on an empty stomach isn’t recommended, so after a couple we headed on. I’ve returned a few times since and I really like The Reservoir and was disappointed to have only just discovered it. There is a relaxed feel to the bar and its ‘out of the way’ location means it is never overcrowded and stressful. A lovely new haunt that I’m pleased to have found.

Another remarkable rejuvenation from the indefatigable Bob Clark and Ali Charlesworth(see my review of the Park Crescent), The Reservoir, in the heart of Hanover, has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Real Ales on draught include Castle and Sussex Gold and there is also Staropramen and Becks for lager lovers. The pub is gaining fame for its Thai food, prepared under the tutelary guidance of Mair Kim. The Sunday night pub quiz is a popular event so brush up your general knowledge and prepare to be baffled by the fiendish Dingbats section.

This has recently changed hands. The drinks are exceptionally cheap and they have a fantastic thai kitchen.

I agree with Sophie that it does look like a restaurant if you didn’t know any better as I thought this for months before I checked it out. I have been a few times on either Friday and Sarurday nights and the atmosphere was great with the upstairs and downstairs being pretty full. For students they offer cheaper pints on Stella Artois 4% and a couple of other beers which helps to keep this place half youthful in terms of clients. Otherwise most pints are under £2.50 which is good for the Brighton area so it is worth checking out. They do food on a Sunday and I have heard from reliable sources that the roasts are nice if you get in just after midday. Pub Quiz on Sunday night which is £1 per person but good prizes are at stake if not just pride. Like many pubs in the area it opens after 3 oclock weekdays and weekends from 12. Otherwise, Sophie has covered the rest.

The Reservoir is a well kept secret amongst Hanover residents– arguably too well kept! Tucked away on Howard St, it’s just a few minutes walk from Southover and Elm Grove, but i only discovered it myself recently. This might be because from the outside it doesn’t look all that pubby– the sign sort of looks like that of a cheap Italian in town. The inside however is pleasant with plenty of seating. Recently under new management, the place has been spruced up to meet local gastropub standards. Pastel interior, check. Pretty young bar staff, check. Ales and Continental lagers, check. The main area is upstairs but there is also a room downstairs, which can be hired out and backs out on to a decked garden. I can imagine this space would be great for hosting a birthday party. There’s really nothing wrong with this place, but I think it suffers a little from its location, because its often quite empty, meaning the atmosphere can be minimal. All in all it just feels a bit unremarkable– whilst the staff are friendly and the drinks are pretty cheap, I’m not sure I’d ever make this a regular, simply because its so quiet.

Tucked away on a sidestreet off Elm Grove is this quality little pub. Hanover is far from short of places to drink, but I do feel this place offers something a little different. It’s combination of food, drink and pleasant interior makes it an ideal local. I’ve spent a few evening in here without feeling the need to move on anywhere else. Highly recommended.

This place looks like restaurant from the outside. It is very pleasant and clean inside. The landlord is very welcoming. There is food. I didn’t eat here but the monkfish looked good on the menu. They also have a good coffee list as well! This list is far better than most pubs have. There is a small garden. There was a pale ale and Harvey’s on tap. The big screen TV was on showing the football but the volume was off. I will go back to this little treasure. I think it will suit most tastes.
