I do like this pub, it looks really tatty but thats a great advert for me as I can’t stand poser pubs. The staff are really friendly and the mainly student customers are always pretty friendly and chatty. They have a great music policy and the open jam night on a Sunday does get quite popular.
Great place for watching a game of footie too and you don’t get too many chavs in there shouting obscenities at the screen!

Considering the sheer amount of pubs on Lewes road I see no reason to prioritize The Lectern over any other unless you’re a student. In which case I imagine you already know about the vast amount of special discounts they give. It you’re a freshman you’ll love it, as it has a friendly, relaxed vibe and a range of regular event nights. If you’re an ale fan I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you fancy sipping your drink with a young crowd.

Let it be known that this is an out-​and-​out, NUS discount giving, party time making, free shot dispensing student pub. Chances are that unless you’re a student or a local resident you’ve never heard of this place. Well if not, don’t fret because you probably don’t fit the demographic. Are you a) a freshman b) a freshman or c) a freshman? If you answered yes to any of the above then head down and enjoy the party but if not I’d steer clear. There are enough good pubs on Lewes road to make heading downstream worth your while.

The Lectern is an ok pub, but suffers due to being situated a long walk out of town, in an area used mainly for housing students. On the positive side, this does mean prices here are affordable, with NUS card wielding students the main demographic of this particular abode. On sundays here there’s roast dinners, live football and an open jam night. On mondays there’s a quiz with cash and drink prizes. Thursday offers live music, and on Friday there’s a DJ set hosted by Juice FM, at which there are prizes and giveaways.

It’s just re opened under new management, looks so much better, but more like a proper pub. They now do good value tasty food, and some dj nights, friday is soul motown affair. I think they are going to do bbq’s in the summer — its a pretty cool place now. Good music too

This is a good pub for students, especially those in Moulsecomb area. If you have not checked it out yet — go ahead! There, you can watch football, play pool and enjoy yourselves! The pub is loudddd!
If you’re not so much into the whole student scene– avoid the place. It is usually packed with them from bottom to the top.
Other than that, just another usual place. You wont miss out on that much!
