FINALLY. A reasonably sized and priced shop selling fair-trade, sustainable clothing. People Tree are a great company– I had seen some of their clothing on line and in Fair, just up the road, and liked what I saw, so was delighted when this shop arrived! It’s such a great alternative to high-street fashion like Topshop and Miss Selfridge, whose clothes are undeniably overpriced and questionably produced. What’s so great about People Tree is that their lines are actually lovely– why has it taken this long for people to realize that fair-trade, organic and sustainable doesn’t have to mean scratchy old hemp? Whatever, I’m just glad this myth has been disproved. People Tree is full of really gorgeous designs… much of the clothing is simple in both colour, style and texture. Lots of soft organic cottons and lovely warm knits. I have found an absolutely amazing black and white checked cotton coat… only problem is it’s definitely too lightweight for winter. I’ll be back though, once the warmer weather returns, you’ll find me stocking up on ethical summer gear!

A People Tree pop-up shop– thank God! Now more people will see the brilliance that is stylish, reasonably priced, ETHICAL People Tree! Their clothes look great, feel great, cost the same as any high-street store and you can buy knowing you are helping someone. What more could you want! They stock items from the new collection– men, women and kids– and discounted items from last season. I’m proud that Brighton is the first town to host a People Tree shop– I would give it five stars if they would just make it permanent!

Hallelujah. Fair trade fashion pioneer People Tree have opened up their own pop-up store here in Brighton! A passionate advocate of sustainable, fair trade fashion for men and women, they specialise in organic cottons and fabrics that are hand produced, handwoven, hand knitted and hand embroidered. As well as being ethical, their clothes are gorgeous. We’re talking kimono wool jackets, cable knit jumpers, ruffle blouses, bib panel shirts, knitted tunics and elegant but slouchy dresses. Fashion designers Karen Nicol, Jessica Ogden and Bora Aksu have all produced limited edition lines for this season but it’s the Eley Kishimoto printed tea dress I am in love with. Really. You’re welcome to look at it but remember, I saw it first!
