Had Huevos Rancheros here for breakfast today — Crisp tortilla base with chorizo, black bean, sweet corn and chipotle sauce topped with fried free range eggs and a tomato and avocado salsa — which makes a refreshing change for breakfast. Along with coffee they offer an impressive range of teas including matcha and herbals as well as smoothies. We washed breakfast down with a glass of bubbles — just because we could. If Huevos Rancheros is not your kind of thing, they of course offer standard English breakfasts, both carnivore and vegetarian along with other breakfast items. What’s not to like about this place.

I’ve been to a number of local independent coffee shops around Brighton, but this is the one I find myself at most frequently as time goes on. This is purely for two reasons: they use, and prepare excellently, teapigs Matcha(hint: it’s not on the menu but on a hot day they will make you an iced one if you ask), and secondly, the guy behind the counter is just really nice and charming. They also have a loyalty card, just like most of the other local establishments :) Still, I always get it to go and have never stayed or tried the food — something about the ambience, the décor, the location… I don’t know what it is, but it ends up being radically less cool or comforting of a space than all of the coffee shops right near it on London Road or Trafalgar Street or the North Laines — if I wanted to sit down I’d go just about anywhere else, and thus the four stars.

Perfect for groups and students, with a large range of food and drink on offer. I had an iced american which was lovely and strong, along with an almond biscotti. Yum yum! They also had a chocolate drizzled biscotti which looked amazing but I wasn’t feeling exotic enough to give it a go and went for the healthier option haha ;) I was a little suprised at the price of the panini’s at nearly £6 each, which seems a little steep, despite looking delicious. I couldn’t justify spending this amount, even with my love of panini’s, with so many more reasonably priced options nearby. There was also a wide range of juices on offer with amusing names if that’s your sort of thing. The internet was a bit of a faff and you had to use a code which lasts for 30 mins before you need to ask for a new one. I ended up just using my 3G as didn’t want to have to bother with this. The interior is clean, bright and airy, yet somehow cosy at the same time. Local artists work is displayed on the walls, which is always a nice touch and goes down well with me. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by this place. One thing’s for sure… I’ll definitely be back here for that chocolate drizzled biscotti in the near future!

Went today for first time after finding out that this place had come 2nd in the Brighton Food awards for best café. Have walked past lots on my way home and never really thought of going in but so glad I did today. Amazing and delicious huge slices of cake served to me and my friend with equally large cups of tea/coffee. Brilliant value. Will definitely be going back to try all the other fabulous looking cakes, slices, biscotti etc! They also do savoury food but didn’t try this today. Please go and try this lovely place in a rather neglected part of Brighton.

Whats is it with places that don’t have sem-skimmed milk? I ordered a Tea and asked for semi-skimmed milk and was told full fat or skimmed, I asked why they don’t offer semi skimmed and the ‘curt’ reply was because it’s a ‘coffee shop’ I said a coffee shop that serves tea? and no reply Regardless of it being a coffee shop, people still have semi skimmed in their coffee right? I know I do Giving this one a miss in future.

Brilliant for working… loads of people having meetings and working on their laptops. This is a real surprise in a part of Brighton that you wouldn’t expect to find such a gem. Food and coffee good, not many places where you can get free WiFi that comes with banana and chocolate muffins. I’ll be back… I even picked up a loyalty card!

Great food great coffee. Nice independent coffee shop. There homemade food is stunning. The service is ok. It felt like a big chain but wasn’t big surprise. I still prefer the costa down the road opposite boots. The stuff are stunning and friendly. Sorry moksha.

I’ve had coffee here a few times and I would give it a bit of a ‘meh’ rating. The quality of the coffee is varied depending on who makes it, I have taken coffees back and asked for it to be made again and it wasn’t too much of an issue. Staff are a bit ‘meh’ too, polite but obviously they don’t want to be there. The place feels and looks like a chain but their cake selection is awesome, that’s their saving grace in my opinion. Check out a jaffa slice ;). There is limited outside seating facing the church but the road is very noisey, no ashtrays either which means I end up throwing my butts to the floor. Overall nothing special but nicer than some of the other places close by.

Probably my favourite café in Brighton. Coffee and cake on a weekend has become a regular ritual.

Moksha is a great little café at the bottom of Trafalgar Street, opposite St. Peter’s Church. Serving Teapigs tea(which is quite possibly the best name for a brand of tea EVER) and a range of deliciously indulgent coffees in a gorgeous, light, airy space, this is one of my favourite places to grab a newspaper and a coffee on a lazy, sunny Sunday morning. Plus, it’s en route to Brighton station which is rather handy. As well as the usual tea/coffee café fare, they also sell the tastiest 100% fresh fruit smoothies in all of Brighton the ‘Cardio Angel’ and ‘Flu-Fighter’ varieties are particular favourites of mine. And they both make for excellent hangover cures. The other thing that Moksha do, which places it firmly within the Brighton culture, is that they display original artworks by local artists. A friend of a friend had an exhibition evening here a year or two ago, which turned into a lovely wine-and-chat-filled evening.

Moksha Caffe is a sweet little caffe with a friendly atmosphere. It’s not quite in the centre of the city but convenient if you just want to meet up for a quick coffee or are out and about and get hungry. I did notice a few young people on their laptops indoors though so it seems like the kind of place you could go and do your work for a while. I stopped off here for some lunch with a couple of friends after a day of house-hunting! I had a BBQ chicken sandwich which was good but not quite what I was expecting, it was a little greasy; however I also had a fantastic smoothie called the ‘Flu Fighter’, containing kiwi fruit, banana, pineapple, yoghurt and apple Juice which was very refreshing indeed. The selection of lunch food was plentiful, as well as sandwiches they do salads, quiches and tasty looking cup cakes, muffins and sweet snacks. The premises have a pleasant outdoor seating area even though it is by the road it’s nice to be able sit outdoors when the weather is good. The indoor décor is very modern and trendy, the service was great, there’s nothing I can actually complain about this place. What also intrigues me is that they regularly hold various events in the evening such as open-mic nights and stand up comedies. It can also be hired out for private parties where they supply a full catering and waiter service as well as an alcohol licence. It’s a great café to pop into if you’re passing by and actually has a lot more going than one may expect! Overall, this place is certainly worth checking out.

This is everything you want in the modern café; beyond the traditional choice of drinks, Moksha offers various smoothies, fruit juices, brilliant cakes and a whole host of savoury food options. There really is more on offer here than just about anywhere else. For the coffee lovers, Moksha gets a ‘thumbs up’. Moksha isn’t in the nicest area of town, but once you are sat down inside, you’ll soon forget the outside surroundings. Everything is very modern and tasteful, perfect for an afternoon catch up, or a peaceful read of the newspaper. The free wi-fi on offer means that this is also a great place to do work as well.

Contemporary, open and light, with big windows to the outside world and lots of seating inside. Moksha stands out a little among the general drabness of London Road — it looks like it should be somewhere much trendier. It offers a very good range with pretty much everything catered for — as well as the obligatory coffee and cakes, there’s a good range of sandwiches, salads and other foods, and a limited bar. With its free wifi and friendly atmosphere, this is the kind of place you could easily find yourself staying in for a few hours. The size means you feel you can do this without depriving others of a seat, but it’s got the independent friendly vibe that you wouldn’t find in Starbucks or Costa.

Moksha café is very student friendly … Often, when I sit in a café and plug in my laptop, one of the servers looks at me like she’s trying to decide whether to charge me more for my coffee now that I’m draining the electricity. Moksha, on the other hand, has outlets under almost every table. I’d say almost half of the customers were typing or surfing away on the free wifi whilst I drank my tea. And it was delicious tea — winter spiced red. Mmm. Moksha offers many different flavours, all for £1.50, and other hot drinks like mochacinos, americanos and lattes in two sizes. Smoothies are £2.95 each and named things like, ‘Cardio Angel’ and ‘Flu Fighter.’ Yummy and healthy-sounding. Snackables range from cakes(such as carrot cake, blueberry and cinnamon loaf, and brownies) to sandwiches, quiches and jacket potatoes. It looks like a great place to stop for lunch; as menu items are all under £5. Meal-size salads are the most expensive, at £4.50, and I’m quite tempted to return for the Roasted Butternut Squash and Feta salad. Wow-y. With plenty of tables and couches, friendly staff and the multitude of available outlets, I’ll definitely be back here to work on my term paper/sample some deliciousness in the near future.

Moksha’s a lovely, open plan, light, bright café, that sits opposite St Peter’s church. The coffee beans are ethically sourced, and roasted in Brighton, which I believe they say is more sustainable on our environment, so they have good marks for ethics and sustainability. The café itself has a really laid back atmosphere, which makes you feel as though you could happily just hang out there drinking coffee and reading a good book, or working for a whole day. Whilst I was there, two girls who were there, I’m pretty sure for ‘work’ were lying on the sofa’s, in sleeping bags, with their laptops infront of them. It’s hard to get much more relaxed than that in public. The coffee’s really good, and the Barista was like a well trained Coffee Making Elite Marine, working the coffee machine like it was an extension of his own body, with such speed and precision that I was questioned whether he’d ever done anything other than exactly that same routine, for years. I got a nice big bucket of an Americano for £2.05, which made me pretty happy, as I’m often disappointed by the size of Large coffee’s in independent cafes. My one and only problem that I had with this place, and actually it turned out to be quite a large one, to the extent that I had to leave, was that the internet was really slow, and there was a maximum of one window that you were allowed to use. Seeing as Brighton is a town full of freelancers, and/or general bums(like me) who need to use the internet for their jobs, it well and truly surprised me that they had such a restricted system. Other than that though, I really like this place, and would go again, I just bring my laptop.

Hmmm… i’ve hesitated in reviewing this place previously, simply because I couldn’t make my mind up what to think. I’m not sure I have a coherent opinion now, but I’m gonna share my rambling thoughts… Moksha is an independent café. Tick, we like that. The name is interesting and comes from Sanskrit and according to their website, «Moksha frees the soul from all limitations, restrictions and conditions whatsoever, conferring full and total satisfaction and peace.» Interesting. Why then does this place look like a Starbucks? Maybe it’s just me, but full and total satisfaction are not found in pleather furniture and boring, standardized décor. Inject some character and individuality, and then talk to me about freeing my soul! I just don’t really understand– the last thing we need is independent businesses mimicking multinational corporate chains, especially in Brighton, which is fast losing it’s face. Beyond my own personal grievances, this café does nice food(jacket potatoes, quiches, sandwiches and salads), which is fresh and tasty. It does also have a nice chilled(if manufactured) ambiance and they have occasional gigs and free wifi. Just not the stuff dreams are made of, at least not for me!

A pleasant modern café opposite St. Peter’s Church. A good place to meet up if you’re travelling to Brighton via train(5 minutes’ walk down from the station) and don’t want to meet in a pub. I had assumed Moksha was part of a chain but perhaps not as this one in Brighton is the only one I can find in Google. The name is presumably from its Indian religious meaning — according to Wikipedia, Moksha… refers in Indian religions to liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth and all of the suffering and limitation of worldly existence. It’s brightly decorated with large windows looking onto St. Peter’s. The seating(capacity: about 50) is mostly solid(but cushioned) chairs at small tables, plus a few sofas. When I came here(in fact, I’m here right now) I had a quite acceptable single espresso at £1.30 and an Earl Grey tea at £1.50. They do the usual modern coffee shop stuff, plus a few quiches. Another plus is the free wifi. You have to ask at the counter for the key, and after eventually connecting there’s a good strong signal. At one point today I was one of seven laptoppers. A minor annoyance is that they seem to have blocked off all the power sockets so you perhaps aren’t allowed to recharge your laptop or mobile. The staff are mostly very good, and a cut above those at other coffee shops — perhaps because it’s still new(it’s only been open maybe a couple of months).(Though actually I do wonder if the staff are in fact the owners.) The music is not of any particular variety and is played at a lowish level. Didn’t inspect the loos, but I’d expect them to be clean and bright as well.

Yet another great coffee café in Brighton you can not afford to overlook! The place is very spacious with a bright, warm and stylish interior. The house offers your traditional coffee cups along with some of the best indulging deserts seen! The staff is always smiling and ready to serve you upon coming in! You can bring your laptop or browse through a range of newspapers and magazines offered! It is a really good place to spend a Sunday afternoon or each day of the week if you like!
