Just had a takeaway from here after following rating on just eat(where it got 5 stars). First the good bits, it arrived exactly on time which is always a bonus. That’s pretty much where the good stuff ends. Well that might be harsh. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t that good. The half a crispy duck was plentiful but the cucumber and onion looked old and dry and not fresh. In fact most items didn’t seem particularly fresh. The rice looked like it had been reheated a few times as did the chow mein. Add to that one of the items I ordered wasn’t included but due to the average quality of the rest of it I wasn’t going to chase it up in a hurry. All in all pretty average stuff and not particularly magical.

This is my new found favourite for Chinese in Brighton! I’ve spent 6 months trying places that didn’t satisfy. Magic Wok came highly recommended and I have not been disappointed in my first two orders with them. The menu is big, the food has great flavour, everything is cooked just right, and so far really consistent. The portions are big enough, the prices are very reasonable. I managed to feed 2 adults and 4 kids for £35 and no one was left hungry! And they still do their free item when you spend over £15, so look at the list of items ahead of time, a really a nice touch and many things to choose from. All aspects of my experiences were spot on, from the fast, accurate order taking, to the fast delivery with HOT food appearing in less than half the time I was quoted. Everything I ordered was so tasty, it would be hard to recommend one thing over another, but I have to sat the king prawn in satay sauce is a real winner. And the special curry. And the sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style. And salt and chilli chicken. And… you get the idea ;-) My search for great, fresh, delicious, consistent Chinese in Brighton is over!

Magic Wok is probably my favourite Chinese take away in Brighton. My partner and I have ordered from there for as long as we can remember! Everything on their menu is reasonably priced and there is an awful lot to choose from. Having heard that Magic Wok had recently been taken over by new management, we were a little hesitant to order from them as we were concerned that the quality might have changed for the worse! We went for it and ordered anyway, and I’m glad we did as the food was just as delicious as before — in fact the chilli salt chicken somehow tasted even better?! Really nice quality chinese food that isn’t greasy or bland whatsoever. *they used to send a free side dish with orders over £20, however this no longer seems to be the case.

Adore Magic Wok, really friendly place with freshly cooked dishes, it just seems healthier than most — what really sets it apart is the huge amount of veggie dishes. And free dishes over £20 it’s a great deal!

magic wok is pretty much like most Chinese places. I haven’t been blown away by anything on the menu but its fairly priced, and they waiting time is really good– they are fast. I’ve found it can be a lucky pick on how good it is– have ordered the same thing a few times and its fairly hit and miss some days!

Magic wok is definitely one of the best Chinese take aways I’ve ever had. Before, plenty of times I was frustrated by paying money for greasy and soaky spring rolls, cold, oily dishes, and spiced water instead of soup, delivered in an hour. Magic wok is actually magic — I got my food delivered in. 10 – 15 minutes? That was absolutely mad, I didn’t even have time to run to the cashpoint! Food was BOILING, seemed like they were cooking in the car. .and yummy! Soups were tasty(particularly my favourite sweet and sour), from mains I really loved Monk’s vegetables — they were very well prepared, not overcooked. And a big plus for starters — for crispy spring onions, rather than oily and soggy, as in many other take aways. And singapore noodles were also nice. Prices are ok, you can get a three day meal for two for 25 quid. There are also some small deal, like if you get food for 25 quid, you get a starter and prawn crackers for free. If you’re hungry right now, and you can’t be bothered to go anywhere or cook, Magic wok will fulfil your needs quickly. Possibly, you might find food in restaurants tastier, particularly because they are served in nice dishes rather than plastic boxes, but Magic wok is a wonderful cheaper alternative. I definitely recommend it as my favourite Chinese take away.

Magic Wok is essentially like every other Chinese takeaway on Preston Street. The only difference is the price, as they offer a range of set meals from as little as £10 pp. Considering the liberal portion sizes it’s great value for money and I doubt it’ll leave anyone feeling dissatisfied. There’s a dedicated selection of vegetarian dishes but apart from that the menu looks pretty much the same as most Chinese places. As they offer free delivery for orders of over £15 It’s worth not missing a trick. I recommend giving Magic Wok a try. It’ll easily compete with your regular.

Fortunately or unfortunately-depending on how you see it– Magic Wok is located on Preston Street, which is probably one of the most competitive streets for restaurants and takeaways in all of Brighton. As a result it’s a place that often gets overlooked. I would strongly recommend you don’t make this mistake, as it’s just as good as anywhere in the vicinity. In terms of value for money I don’t think many places can compete, especially as they offer a range of great set meals at approximately £10 pp. Due to their generous portion sizes it’s the kind of place that’ll satiate even the most hungry of caterpillars. They also serve an array of vegetarian options including two ‘vegetarian feasts’. The rest of the menu looks exactly like every other Chinese takeaway you’ve visited although the price tags may be a little more forgiving. They also offer free delivery if your order is over £15 and you live within 3 miles.
