I called Hove Farrow & Ball for some detailed advice to help me choose suitable paint finishes to decorate my kitchen. A knowledgeable and friendly guy was really helpful. Thank you.

If the extent of home decoration stretches no further than Ikea, or B&Q, then you may be in for a surprise when you enter Farrow & Ball. This isn’t a furniture store, but rather a paint and wallpaper specialist with one of the classiest displays of paint tins I think I have ever seen! With displays like this, you know you’re dealing with some serious emulsion enthusiasts, which is the impression you get when you encounter the staff who seem to possess zest and knowledge in spades. I didn’t need to buy anything, I was just intrigued by the place, but if you’re looking for some classy paint, or paper choices, then check out the professional service at F&B.

I’m with Sarah-Jane when it comes to the posh yuppy feel of Farrow&Ball– there is no place more middle to upper class. My dad would faint at the prices and I’m with him on that too. For all that though… I can’t help but love the muted colors of their paint, they all look like they have had earth mixed in with them or like you are seeing them through the cigarette smoke of a party in the twenties. They have drama, undeniably and one day I would love to paint some of my walls one of their greys, and a navy perhaps. I guess I must be an aspiring yuppy… oh, dear.

Who-ever comes up with the titles for Farrow & Ball’s paint range should be given their own comedy show. Seriously. Inbetween shades like Cooking Apple Green and Lime White there’s Smoked Trout, Dead Salmon, Hound Lemon, Mouse’s Back, Setting Plaster and my personal favourite, Arsenic! Thank goodness there’s a sense of humour evident because everything else about Farrow & Ball screams yuppy and yummy mummy. In short, they sell a wide range of premium paints and wallpapers to make your house look like it should be in the pages of Country Living or Hello magazine. There’s a zillion shades of white, grey, beige, yellow, green and what they call ‘neutrals.’ Everything you buy comes with an advice sheet on how to apply it and guarantees you pretty but bland walls. :-)
