I recently discovered Fanny’s shortly before attending a rehearsal with my band. Drawn in by the wonderful 1930s font and appetite educing window display I decided the second I laid eyes upon their board of fare that this was to be the place for me to lunch. I spent the rest of the rehearsal raving on about how fantastic Fanny’s is. I had a Cheddar and Onion Marmalade baguette which I had the pleasure of eating in the little patio area at the rear of the shop. The service was fantastic, warm, friendly and remarkably prompt and the food was far and beyond anything that I was expecting from a little shop in Hanover. The baguette itself was served with salt, pepper and an optional dressing that was made(so far as I could tell) on site and bursting with delicious and highly complementary salad. What’s more, despite the generous portion size, upon finishing it I had to restrain myself from ordering five more. The prices are fantastic too, not just for the food that you can take away or eat on site but also for the wide range of locally sourced ingredients that you can buy here to make up your own wonderful food at home. It seems that Fanny’s is doing the locally sourced, ethical and delicious food for the local people thing with all the normal features of such a place bar the high prices. So you really can afford to live like this every day without having a large income.

What a gem of a place Fanny’s is, this is the type of delicatessen that your stomach dreams of, where you could spend far too much money without even knowing it. Selling homemade cakes, bread, sandwiches and fresh coffees, this is one of the nicest places for quite a distance. Everything here is so very Brighton; the produce is continental, yet local and organic(sounds contradictory, but it really is true). I would recommend coming here to anybody, although I would warn you that it is a bit pricey, and the selection is a bit limited if you’re thinking about coming here instead of a green grocers or Co-Op.

Yummmmmmm! Everything in this little Hanover deli/café looks mouth-wateringly delicious. I find it a real challenge to walk past without popping in for a treat. The idea behind Fanny’s is to provide the local community with local produce, so you’ll find there’s lots of Sussex cheeses and local meat, as well as local organic milk and eggs. With freshly baked bread and pastries from the Real Patisserie this really is the perfect little shop to have on your doorstep! No longer must you buy yucky over-priced bread from the newsagent if you run out– hooray! The assortment of bread is great and the baguettes are especially good. If you fancy a sandwich they do filled ones too. With yummy home-made cakes, jars of pickles and preserves, antipasti, cheeses and meats of all varieties, I really could spend hours browsing and sampling in this lovely little deli. Alas I don’t have that much time or money on my hands. But I will continue to support this fantastic little local business whenever I can!
