I have always totally overlooked this shop, maybe I’ve noticed it cos I’m getting that wee bit older… I thought this shop was a bit bland, beige, United Colours of Benetton-esk, but after popping in the other day, when a navy blue mac caught my eye, I have to say I was quite impressed. I want to give this place 3& a half stars but Unilocal don’t do that kinda fing bruv. Instead of the more Gap kind of style clothing, some of the pieces where more French Connection. There is still quite a bit of blandness but I was excited by some of the collections and will be back to retrieve them when I get paid! Sophisticated chic. For all you classy birds out there. Pricing similar to Zara.

If I was the kind of gal that woke up in the morning and asked myself ‘Should I dress casual, trendy or feminine today?’ I’d probably shop at Esprit. They have different sections of their website devote to each, ahem, style and the shop seems to be laid out the same way. There’s a large section of casual jeans, tops, shirts and jackets stacked and racked inbetween more trendy and ‘feminine’ long cardigans, fluffy jumpers and fur waistcoats. Some of the designs are checked and striped others are in plain, bold colours, greys and blacks. I quite like some of the boots but the clothes section makes me yawn. Clearly, I’m not the type of gal that wants to dress casual, trendy or feminine each day!

Being a bit of a Europhile, I was excited to see what Esprit had to offer. I am a big fan of other European high street stores(Zara, H&M) and I had high hopes for Esprit, thinking I might even start a new trend(my life consists of jumping on/trying to jump on bandwagons before they’re even known as bandwagons). Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed. Esprit was okay, but I thought the styling of the menswear range was a little bland and the clothes overpriced. I then had the idea that it may be a good place to buy basics — you know, wardrobe staples? However, everything that looked plain had annoying Esprit logos on them. I am not a big fan of this type of branding, especially on clothes that really don’t need it. A lot of the branding was printed, so you couldn’t even unstitch it. Grrrrrrrrrr! I’m gonna have to find another bandwagon to chase and jump on!

Esprit is a little like Gap in style– a touch of preppiness, a touch of the outdoorsy, a touch of formal work clothes. Only Esprit have a much wider range of women’s, men’s and children’s clothes– much more choice than Gap, which means that there are more basics, some misses and some really excellent hits– you can check out most of their stuff online. The fit of their trousers seems better than Gap and their jumpers are super soft and last for ages. This Brighton branch is huge and stocks the whole range, it’s an incredibly tidy and easy to naviagte store, if a little bland. It’s an oft ignored brand but you should check it out, it will surprise you.

Nice shop and clothes, but not much choice and too many staff. I have been asked if i needed help about 5 times in the same visit.
