Bubble tea. What a revelation! I’ve noticed Bubble Tea bars popping up all over the place, but hadn’t got around to actually trying some until this week, on the recommendation of a friend. There was a huge amount of choice on the menu, and if you’re not familiar with bubble tea, it can be a little confusing! However the staff were happy to advise me on how much sugar and ice to have if you’re new to it. I ended up having the passionfruit green tea, and I asked for the popping pearls. The tea was absolutely delicious, however they weren’t popping pearls in my tea but the standard black tapioca pearls. they were a bit bland and very chewy… I managed to eat a few of them but there were loads of them in my tea and I couldn’t eat them all! Too filling. I eventually want to get through every flavour and pearl combination of bubble tea — I’m hooked!

I have an occassional craving for a bit of Hong Kong now and then. The tea is divine! I am on a mission to go through everything on the menu! You have a choice of sweetness and ice levels on percentage. I’ve been having a lot of pearl teas lately. This is my stress-buster when I’m in town and I love it!

I was quite shocked and surprised to see a tea chain I recognized from my time living in Hong Kong open up in downtown Brighton! I thought we’d never get good bubble tea down here! Which should be an indicator that if you are looking for bubble tea in brighton, this is really the only option. Like most bubble tea chains popular in Asia right now, they let you specify both the amount of sugar(from 0% of normal to 120% of normal) and the amount of ice(I always get less so as to get more tea!). Though you can specify no sugar, just a heads up that there is no option for artificial sweetener. I tried the original milk tea, which is really what needs to shine if you are ever to call yourself a proper bubble tea establishment. It was perfectly delicious and had that caramelly edge to the taste, and the boba were perfectly cooked and the amount given was just right. I’ll be back as often as me not being a giant bubble tea sphere allows.

When I need to satisfy my craving for tapioca pearls and milk tea, I go to Chatime. I’m so grateful that you can customise your drink with the amount of ice and sugar. I’ve had the peach green tea as well as the jasmine green milk tea here and have found them both to be refreshing! The staff here are also friendly, despite the loud construction going on right next door. I would vote this the best tapioca(also called boba/pearls) place in Brighton!
