A debauched haven where the bar staff somehow manage to make hilarious insults and still be endearing, gorgeous and very very very fun. It always starts off pretty civilised but by 10pm your pretty much hanging off the bar, being offered a free jagermeister for being such a booze hound and falling in love with the place and everyone in it. This place has a lot of atmosphere when it gets going. A great, gritty and only occasionally civilised drinking den.

The Brighton Tavern is a gay friendly pub which is a good place to have a quiet drink. I’ve been in a few times and it is rarely busy. The staff are always friendly and last time I was there they were handing out some breaded prawn with chilli dip free of charge. Drinks prices are decent and they have a good selection. There’s a teeny weeny patio area out the back which I don’t think gets used. In good weather they put a couple of tables out on the pavement which is good for people watching.

Nice little gay-run pub with a couple of real ales, a conveniently short walk from Brighton railway station. The inside is very traditional, the music is not too loud, and the bar staff are very friendly and obliging indeed.

The Brighton Tavern is that rare beast: a very nice, gay-run pub, with real ale. Nice enough to take your Mum and Dad to, in fact. The exterior is not especially interesting — a functional post-war rebuild, by the look of it, but the interior is entirely traditional, with wooden floors, half-panelled walls, and wooden furniture. There are two cosy rooms, each with serving counters and with separate entrance doors, connected by passageway at the back. The right hand room is a little quieter, whereas the left room is busier with piped music. They serve real ale(Harvey’s and Old Speckled Hen on our visit) which were both decently kept, and(bliss!) they served us full pints without having to be asked for top-ups. Staff are nice and the atmosphere is comfortable and friendly without being pretentious. The only downer is that they don’t do food, but there are plenty of eateries nearby. It’s just a few miutes’ walk from Brighton railway station and the North Lanes area. Worth looking out.
