Love this bar! My friends and I would often visit here for their pub quiz and general evening drinks. Run by some great guys, who were always fun and sociable and even did a shot challenge with my friend on her birthday! The cocktails on offer are good. It’s quite hidden which I like as it was never too rammed. Highly recommend this place.

Foxy bramble. Do it. Also I’m officially starting a Sunday Spaniel Club. Jarvis needs a wife. Bring your long eared lovelies down ;) we could make a sort of, canine blind date, woof! This place has been on my list of bars to check out for ages and I’m sad I haven’t gone sooner! Great music, great staff and most importantly GREAT drinks. They have a resident mixologist and their ‘foxy bramble’ is insanely good. Sour and punchy. It was only £5 as it was cocktail of the week. Yes, I have a hangover today. It’s pretty small but there is outside seating for warmer evenings and smokers. Monday — Friday 5 – 7 happy hour. Really good playlists, I was shazaming the night away. I reeeeally love this place, it’s kind of tucked away so I was thinking I could keep it to myself a bit but the locals informed me to stay away Saturday nights as the place gets rammed. I’ll see if I’m in an elbowing mood Saturday. In the words of Arney — I’LLBEBACK!

Two questions, how long has this place been hidden away here, and how comes I only discovered it last night?! To be honest, we did stumble across it due to a couple of other places being too busy, and a lack of decent pubs in the Queens Park area(face facts Round George) but i’m glad we did. A friendly mixed crowd of young and old folk, quite a lot of outside seating, some nice comfy areas to sit at both ends of the place. It was pretty full, maybe this was due to it being the Friday before Christmas, or maybe its always like this on a friday. Not a massive selection on tap, but i’m trying to give up pints, and they did have a good selection of wines and spirits. Good mix of music, jazz, hip hop,(no ironic crap for the students) well worth popping in if you’re up this end of town.

Brighton Rocks is a little of the beaten track of the busy St James Street and suffers lightly from lack of passing trade. But the bar is really nice, tastefully decorated, gorgeous cocktails, friendly staff and outside tables on the front decking area. I think its difficult to fit Brighton Rocks into a type of venue as it doesn’t really have a theme or regular type of night. they do however have regular djs, charity events and poker nights, as well as a yummy menu.

Brighton rocks is a sweet and swish little place, good tunes(last in it was Roisin which is always a mark of distinction), good cocktails and it feels like a peaceful den with its situation just off the main run of St. James Street on Rock Place. This is a top place to gear up for the long night ahead or some post-work drinks, I have also seen much eye candy grazing on the raised deck outside. You can hire the candle lit blue room for parties, which is cosy. It has a very social feel, as its quite small you can’t really avoid happy glances. Top marks for the feel good factor.

This was once a friendly and busy bar, with many regulars and popular with locals. Then it changed hands and is now as flat as a pancake, in my opinion. The new owners/managers seemed out of their depth and possessed a surprising inability to pick up on social cues.

This effortlessly stylish place is tucked down a little alleyway off the bustling St James Street, mostly backed onto by other premises, meaning there is little reason to wander down here except to come to Brighton Rocks(on Rock Place — geddit?). There is a verandah style outside section at the front of this white painted place. The inside is deceptively small, but as its location means it doesn’t pick up a great deal of passing trade, that’s not a problem here. Generally, it feels just the ‘right’ level of business. At weekends, the side section of the bar often plays host to DJs and a clear strip of floor provides a small dancefloor — this is a good place to stop for a couple of warm up drinks before heading on to a club. Occasionally, most notably on Brighton Gay Pride weekend in August, the music booms onto the street outside, this being a perfect street party location. They also make a mean cocktail for those so inclined.

I have lived a two minute’s walk from this place for over a year, and I paid my first visit yesterday. In concurrence with the last two reviewers, this bar certainly gets all too often overlooked due to its location just off St James’ St(don’t worry — when I say just off, it’s literally a 30 second’s walk), and after last night’s visit I do promise to do my best to pay it more attention! It’s great inside, with very friendly staff, a DJ playing music in the weekend evenings and pub grub in the days, and has a cosy décor, with mirrors and random pub pictures covering the walls, sofas and chairs, oh and a piano too(apparently very out-of-tune according to the owner). Brighton Rocks offers a great place for a quieter evening drink, as it doesn’t get very busy, even at weekends. And it’s also worth stopping by for a drink in the week at they do good deals on several drinks, including £3 cocktails. Less fancy-pants than Gin Gin, more stylish than The Ranelagh, and cosier than the St. James — I shall certainly be back.

It was Friday night and I had literally just wandered out of a Thai restaurant on St. James St. The wind was blowing and the drizzle was already making my hair frizz. We needed a pub and fast! Suddenly a flier was thrust in to my hand promising drinks for £1.99 and we were directed just around the corner to Brighton Rocks. From the outside, the bar looks cosy and sort of cottagey. There’s outside decking for al fresco drinking with views down the street towards the beach. Inside, the bar is small and cosy with low-lighting and a DJ playing really mellow tunes. There wasn’t many people in the bar at all, just us and one or two other tables– I think this must be due to the tucked away secret location. Being served straight away is lovely(and the £1.99 drinks were good, a house spirit and mixer or bottled beer– track down a flier if you can!), but a lack of people does create a slight lack of atmosphere. Don’t get me wrong, this is a lovely bar and it was really nice to have a chilled drink and a chat, but it didn’t really feel like Friday night! There is some interesting art work on the walls and the menu looked good(simple but yummy) and I’ve been told they do a great Sunday roast, which I intend to return for! Check it out and then spread the word– this is a bar that deserves attention!

This bar is right in the middle of Kemptown but a little hidden so it can be quiet at times. The interior is stylish and modern and the raised exterior decking offers a sea view! Rock Place where the bar is found is little more than a back street but minutes from the seafront and centre of St James Street. They offer service with a smile and an array of cocktails from £6, their mojito is particularly fantastic. The menu includes baked Camembert, moules and frites, and delicious salads. This would be a fab first date bar as a lot of locals wouldn’t know it and its cool with a friendly atmosphere. They have DJs at the weekend, poker evenings and cocktail tasting so its worth checking out whats happening.
