Valentinos us a lovely«old school» Italian restaurant, nothing at all hipster about this place, but the food is consistently great, service is lovely and prices are very fare. Real linen on the tables, decent house wine, huge menu selection and usually busy on a Saturday night but quiet throughout the week and at lunchtimes. A firm favourite of mine, Valentino has been serving harborne since 1975 so he is definatly doing it right. This Saturday I had the crab and prawn starter, Huge amount of prawns, a very genorous starter, lemon sole as my main, a beautifully cooked fish and really a bit too much on my plate, served with carrot purée, broccoli and crushed potatoes. A very agreeable house red with my meal, a Campari and soda for my apéritif, Keith had roasted aubergine starter, oh my, very tasty indeed and veal for his main, again a huge portion of veal and in a super tasty sauce. Veal can be bland but this was lovely, as was my lemon sole, which is all too often overcooked. We arrived at 7.00 and was lucky enough to be seated immediately, the restaurant was full to capacity by time we left at 9.00 So I’d recommend booking for a Saturday, especially if you are a group of bigger than two. Simple in its interior décor, with ceramic tiled floor and linen tablecloths and a candle on each table, this place doesn’t scream«Italian» is whispers it gently in your ear whilst nibbling your neck, and running a finger up your forearm. Valentinos was my first favourite place to eat in the greater Birmingham area and I think it will always have a special place in my heart thanks to great food and its old school charm. I hope it never changes so much as I can’t recognise it. Perfect for date night or for taking your parents, valentinos nestles comfortably on harborne high street.

Valentinos is located Harborne just a short walk away from some of the best pubs in Birmingham. This privately owned restaurant oozes individuality and is a great destination if you’re looking to take someone out for pizza or pasta with a difference. When you arrive in the restaurant, you will be pleasantly surprised by the Italian atmosphere which is often lost with Italian chains such as Pizza Hut! The waiters were dressed smartly which contributed to the relaxed yet stylish vibe. We shared the bbq pizza and a roasted vegetable pasta bake. mama mia it was delicious!

I’ve often wondered why we don’t have more Italian Restaurants in Birmingham. We have a few, but nowhere near as many as Glasgow, which is a much smaller city. I suspect it might be the simple reason that we don’t have as many Italian immigrant families here — back in the day, they must have decided against Birmingham and chose Glasgow instead. Anyway. Valentinos has been a fixture of the high street for many, many years and offers simple, traditional Italian food that tastes a few notches above home-cooked. The façade of the shop hasn’t changed for many years, and on first glance looks a bit like a hairdressers, but they have moved with the times in recent years and now offer a fairly reasonable lunch menu to tempt in the shoppers from the Harborne High Street

Valentino’s is one of the older(if not the oldest) Italian eateries in Harborne. It’s very much still a popular choice and in many ways it’s easy to see why — staff are attentive and charming without being too clingy. The food — a mixture of Italian classics such as Lasagne and Spaghetti Bolognese as well as more obscure fish and veal dishes are delicious and the wine list is extensive and well chose. There’s a nice atmosphere about the pace and on some nights they lay on live entertainment — mostly jazz. It gets busy at lunchtimes — with a few tables outside and whilst it’s a little bit more expensive than some of the bigger chains it is worth it. They also have a Christmas menu(and are open on Christmas day) which comes with recommendations.

My husband and I have eaten at this restaurant on a number of occasions and have generally found it a very good place to dine out I disagree with some of the comments made above, I found the portion sizes ample, especially with regards to the main meals, although some may argue that the starters are a tad stingy, prices are very reasonable the steak is a particularly good price and the food is of a very high standard. It remains one of our favourite places to eat in and around Birmingham. We have always found the staff friendly and efficient. We have only ever had one bad experience there when one of our party found a hair in their dessert! Not the best, but despite this we feel that the quality of the food is high enough to be able to forgive this one mistake

Went here for a birthday, and i’ll be honest it wasn’t my choice and i didn’t really fancy the restaurant, but what a revelation. The food was A1, great wine list, really good atmosphere and super friendly staff. Everyone in our party agreed it was a fantastic night, would highly recommend it(try the seafood linguini, homemade fresh pasta, and packed with fish and shell fish, simply delicious)
