I came here for my Xmas works do last year and had a great time. It’s a fantastic place to drink and have a laugh. The décor and staff are great but on this occasion the food was poor. I’m still hungry and will be popping into subway on the way home after an uninspiring ‘Sunday roast’. I would have gone down to two stars had it not been for last year! Drink here, but don’t bother with the food.

You might not have high hopes after having to cross the bridge from the centre of town to Ludgate Hill, but Stirlings is a lovely, slightly more upmarket bar to add to the fine selection that the Jewellery Quarter already has to offer. It’s not usually very busy which can be a plus if you want to pop in for a quiet bite to eat or a quick pint. Despite looking a little classier than say, The Actress a few doors down, Stirlings still does manage to offer competitive prices on pints and bottles of wine that are a little tastier than the average. Just beginning to find its feet with events, Saturday nights are a regular fixture with a DJ and free entry. Oh, and the food is really terrific too! Have only tried light bites and a few items from the sandwich menu but all have been very tasty and have offered a nice original twist on classic meals. Will definitely have to indulge in a proper sit down meal very soon…

Modern, trendy, clean, relaxing. Just some of the words I’d use to describe this fabulous little place. If you’re in the market for an excellent Sunday lunch then I recommend you pay a visit. Roast Beef with ALL the trimmings or a whole chicken, yes, a WHOLE chicken served on a wooden board, gravy dripping over the side. You’re meant to share but I was hungry! It’ll set you back just £9.95, it’s a great investment as you won’t need to eat for a week afterwards. Book early as it tends to get very busy mid-afternoon but they do serve from 12 noon to 7.00pm.

I have to admit, after living in the city centre for years I’m still fairly new to going out around St Pauls square which is near the Jewellery Quarter. When people come to Birmingham it’s probably not the most well-known of areas but it is certainly becoming one of my favourites! Every now and again, a large group of us meet up for dinner and a few mid week drinks to catch up. I’d heard about Stirlings Bar from a colleague at work so I recommended we give it a try. We reserved a table for 10 and when we arrived our table was ready for us and had been reserved. We sat down, 5 of us against the leather tall back sofa and the other 5 on comfortable chairs. The service was quick, polite and very friendly which instantly got us in the mood for our mid week night out. The menu had a good choice of quality food that you would expect in a high end bar. I opted for the fish and chips which was huge! Although we ordered a few bottles of reasonably priced wine, we noticed on the way out that the bar tender was whipping up a selection of cocktails which we will definitely be trying next time. I’ve since heard that on a Saturday night, the bar has a great vibe with resident DJ’s and free entry. We’ll definitely be back to try Stirlings on the weekend.
