A wonderful meal for my father’s 80th birthday. Starters were; scallops and the fried cheese. Mains were; surf and turf, 18oz Fillet, mashed potatoes, onion rings, and mixed veg. Desserts were; white chocolate cheesecakes. Wine; Malbec and Chardoney Afternoon opening 12 – 3, nice underground setting — great artwork dotted about. Nice selection of wines and ales. Service was great. Knowledgable staff. The food was superb. Scallops were tasty, and accompanied with a delicious aoli. My steak was cooked to perfection — medium rare, my parents has medium and again it was exactly as you’d expect. Dessert was sweet without being too strong, and went perfectly with a double espresso. There’s also a nice selection of spirits for the end of the meal, so a frangelico and a whiskey were also appreciated. I can’t recommend it enough. Price was good. Plenty of other local bars around to nip to after. Happy customer!

Steak house underground with a long history. I choose the special surf package consisting steak and salmon prawn. Steak tastes good but the seafood part needs to be improved. They’ve got tasty white wine plus lovely decoration. Ah would like to highlight that the breads provided have various flavours. They are warm and delicious.

Visited here for a friends birthday after a fantastic recommendation and we were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming and attentive and the food was cooked perfectly to suit each taste. There was a good wine selection and some very tasty cocktails(I would particularly recommend the expresso martini!). The cheese board with a selection of five cheeses also went down well. My only negative comment would be that the starters were extremely small for the price — I would definitely go back but order more sides rather than starters next time.

Much more than just a steakhouse! I came here expecting to great steak and left having had a great experience in general. From the moment you get down(the strangely corporate steps) into the restaurant itself, rich with exposed brickwork and archways, it’s clear this is a cut above the standard fare. Having said that it’s very much a smart casual place and the staff have a relaxed, friendly attitude that keeps things from getting too stuffy, which is good, it is a basement after all! The menu is to the point and it is one for meat fans but not just for steak fans, there’s plenty on there to please a wide variety of people and the seafood is top notch. The drinks are varied also, good range of wines to be had and they’ll get a decent cocktail in your hands sharpish. It’s not the cheapest place to eat out in Birmingham but it is one of the best and represents great value for money.

Visited for a 60th birthday. Anderson’s is on the corner of St Pauls in the Jewellery Quarter. The entrance is somewhat uninspiring, but when you walk down the stairs you find yourself in a charming and atmospheric basement restaurants with lovely brick arches in the ceiling and lovely nooks and crannies to sit in. A good range of spirits, beers and other drinks are available as well as decently priced wine. None of it is cheap but not ridiculous either. I started with the scallops from the specials menu. Three plump scallops(roe on) were served on a bed of puy lentils with apple sauce and pancetta. I love scallops but they can get a bit samey. These were really different. The addition of the roe gave a new taste and texture and the lentils added a delicious earthy taste. Onto the mains. I’m not usually a steak fan, so I went for Surf and Turf as the steak was a little smaller and came with monkfish and a king prawn. The monkfish wrapped in pancetta was beautifully cooked and so flavoursome. I even loved the steak! I had it cooked medium, it was juicy with just a little pink in the middle– perfect. I was worried there would be too much food but the size of the prawn, fish and steak were perfectly balanced. The sides of chunky chips, fresh green vegetables and mushrooms were excellent and portioned generously. To finish I had raspberry soufflé which was light and tasty. Our table of 6 loved every part of the meal. I was expecting to feel stuffed and heavy after a steak meal but everything was cooked and portioned so well that I felt wonderful afterwards! A perfect restaurant for a special occassion or maybe just a treat!

I went here last night on a friends recommendation and the food was brill! There were 6 of us and we got the high table in the little cubby hole next to the bar which was perfect for us as we could chat and cackle away to our hearts content without annoying anyone. We had warm bread and olives to start which came with ginger and whole roasted garlic. A nice touch. I went for the surf and turf, sirloin steak with monkfish wrapped in pancetta and king prawns. This was cooked to perfection. Rare but not bleeding everywhere and the monkfish just melted in your mouth. Delicious. The mains came with the potatoes of the day which were new potatoes crushed with garlic and mustard and fresh steamed veg which tasted fresh and crispy. Followed down with a martini espresso and several glasses of the house merlot and I was a very happy bunny! It’s a little pricey but for a mid week treat absolutely perfect. I’ll definitely go again.

A very good experience we had at this restaurant. Didn’t have to wait for long to be served. The food lived up to the hype. Lovely steaks. Can’t complain. Definitely would commend this restaurant and will be going back.

St Paul’s Square is so underestimated. It’s a scenic and tranquil Georgian square in the heart of Birmingham but away from the loudness of revellers. The bars are generally aimed at over 20’s with a chic look. Just like Anderson’s Bar and Grill. They specialise in steak, which I don’t eat! But they have a delicious tapas menu and some of their other main courses include the tomatoes, basil and olives stuffed chicken in garlicky cream sauce — yummy! The prices reflect the target clientele — young professionals who will pay for quality food. So if you’re looking for a cheap dinner then it’s probably not the best place to go. They usually have live music on the weekend evenings which sets a perfectly charming atmosphere! I love it!
