Its weird how there’s some places you that you only ever visit when inebriated. After I’ve been out in Digbeth and am walking back into town I’ve often popped in for some chips. However I’ve never visited during the daytime when in the area heading for Cow or the Custard Factory. As I’ve strolled past in the daytime there’s usually only ever 1 or 2 people in there at one time but whenever I’ve gone in at night it’s always rammed so perhaps I’m not the only alcohol fuelled customer who gets the urge to come in here! The chips are the skinny variety but there’s just the right amount to line your stomach. The service is pretty quick during the peak time. They also serve samosas, pieces of chicken, pizza and kebabs. Perfect late night fodder

Here’s a fun fact: There’s a cheeky nod to Salt N Pepper in the song ‘Salt, Pepper and Spindarella’ by Brummie band Johnny Foreigner; such is its reputation on the Digbeth high street. Usually accompanying a night at the Custard Factory or, more recently, the Institute, Salt N Pepper is one of surprisingly few chip shops down this end of town. The service is decent and I’ve never been left waiting that long late at night(at this hour, I have a tendency to wander off before too long, so that’s as good a sign as any of quick service), I have however found the chips to be a bit naff. Way overcooked for my tastes sadly. The chicken wings and nuggets, and the pizza do make up for this however. It’s always worth bearing in mind that there’s little to regret with the prices being as ludicrously cheap as they are. Considering its location, Salt N Pepper could be much better than it is, no matter how much it features in many good memories.
