Lewis’s is such a lovely brunch/lunch/coffee spot in Moseley. It’s a small, homey deli and café with just enough tables, and incredibly friendly staff. A lot of thought is put into sourcing the products and ingredients on the menu. They have tremendously good coffee, amazing sourdough bread, and perfectly poached eggs. If you want a fantastic breakfast, go here!

I like Lewis’s. It’s an easy place that’s flexible enough to cope with families, babes in arms, laptop workers and spontaneous coffee breaks. I love the eggs. Scrambled, on buttered, toasted sour dough, with dribbles of truffle oil, garnished with some peppery watercress. Heavenly and unctuous. The bacon is proper, the deli items a treat when you need to impress dinner guests or just yourself. Grab the sourdough to take home if it hasn’t already sold out, drink coffee — it’s roasted by Monmouth, and just enjoy the surroundings. I prefer to sit at the back as the front tables can get a bit chilly when the door swings open frequently. Enjoyable, friendly staff and a mixed audience make it one of the most relaxing cafes in the area.

Think this has topped my favourite coffee shop list now I’ve been. Delicious coffee(decaf capp and flat white) were amongst some of the best I have had and the eggs florentine was incredible, eggs cooked to perfection. Definitely check it out if you are in Moseley. The staff are friendly too and make you feel so welcome. Plus free wifi.

I love this deli and always pop in when I’m in Moseley. The fresh bread is excellent(although somewhat pricier than that available at LOAF in Stirchley) and the cakes, baked lovingly by the amazing chaps at BAKE, are superb. Very good range of pancettas, salamis and tinned goods. Oh and the sausage rolls are like nothing I’ve tastes before — gorgeous! The staff are very helpful and friendly, particularly Lewis the owner. It’s really nice to see Lewis’s doing well and branching out into providing café facilities — I’d give 5 stars but it is a little pricey — but they need to pay that prime Moseley rent somehow!

Fresh bread, fresh bread… this alone is worth coming to Lewis’ for if you are in Moseley. I now try to always get my bread from there, especially as they have a loyalty card. I love loyalty cards! The stock is wonderful, lots of fresh produce, specialist sauces, pasta, olives and antipasti and a good selection of cheeses. The owner is super friendly and helpful, will suggest what you need for recipes etc. and advise you about everything they have in stock. The store is perfectly laid out, nice and open with everything easy to find. I don’t think Lewis’ and Nima’s(the other local deli) need to duke it out, they have a pretty different stock considering they are both delicatessens. This village is big enough for the both of them!

Moseley is a Unilocal scout’s dream, essentially a wonderfully cool aesthetically pleasing area which is bursting with independent businesses of every nature. So imagine my delight when out of nowhere Lewis’s deli popped up and began to provide the good people of Moseley with yet more quality speciality food. An important trait of any respectable deli is having a good owner who knows his stuff and this place certainly has that covered. This is yet another badge of honour for Moseley to wear with the utmost pride as it is a continuation of the fantastically fresh independent ethos which embodies the area. The store looks fantastic, it is fresh modern and yet homely all at the same time. The best word I can think of to describe a visit here is satisfying, as you will leave with a pleasant glow about you, so don’t delay jump on the 50 and head down to Lewis’s now. In fact when you’re done there get over to Nima Delicatessen too, you can never have too much good food!

Lewis’s is a new addition to Moseley’s’ fine array of independent stores. This delicatessen and provincial grocers has not been open long, yet its selection of fine foods keeps on growing by the day, and I for one am addicted to shopping here. At Lewis’s you will be greeted by the friendly and knowledgeable Lewis, the owner and a fine food connoisseur. He will quite happily advise customers on the origins and use of certain foods for sale. The shop also makes use of the web for its business and can be found on line at its own web page, Twitter and facebook. The selection of artisan baked loaves of bread are simply stunning and as soon as you walk through the door, the homely smell of bread will hit you with an assault on the senses. The pre made sauces on offer, range from Italian to Thai and make a perfect foundation for a hearty meal. And let’s not forget the fruit and veg on offer. It is at its very freshest, a far cry from the awful mass produced fruit and veg offered by the chain supermarkets. With summer finally approaching I’d recommend popping into Lewis’s for your ingredients for that special romantic dinner for two or for a large social gathering with a meal. Some of the prices on dried pasta are comparable to supermarkets, however this pasta is imported from Italy and like all food from Lewis’s, you can taste and see the difference.

For years Nima Delicatessen has had the monopoly on deli business in Moseley. Not no more! I don’t know how long it’s been there, but Lewis’s seems to have sprung up in the last few weeks to cater for the increasing influx of well-monied, young things as Moseley continues its gentrification. I ask the owner, ‘So, Nima’s got a bit o’ competition now, eh?’, and bless him, the chap looks ever so slightly offended and a bit hurt. And he’s right to. Both delis each offer something quite unique and different, and I’d be surprised if there is a common item that both of them stock. Nima has a Mediterranean slant,(the owners are from Sicily after all), with falafel mixes and the like, whereas Lewis’s has a more English/French slant with bright, thin, leafy organic carrots and some left-field cheeses on offer. I’d say there’s a tenners’ worth or more of anyone’s money that’s worth spending in both.
