December 7th2011: Booked in again by my company. Mainly as it was close to the German market. The shower curtain was there again, but not smelly this time. The reception staff friendly and helpful. Still the issue with car parking. Breakfast was buffet style with a good selection. My tea was cold, and was replaced very quickly. Good cold selection on the buffet too. I saw a person order a poached egg separately, and that arrive very quickly too. December 16th2010: I stayed here one night and was booked in by my company. The room was basic, but I didn’t spend too much time there, as it was the company’s night out. I know that shower curtains are the standard with these dated places, but I wished they washed them, and they stank of mildew or a an old dish cloth. Breakfast was fine, warm plates, and a good selection. I do prefer a pot of tea for breakfast, rather than a floor walker carrying it around The tabls settings made it a bit cramped for your plate. Bar in the evening was quite good, if only a tad expensive. They ran out of JD, and no means of replenishing. Staff I’d say very pleasant and helpful. Car Parking not the best, and the charge is £12 for the night. Be very careful there are some pay and display parking near to the hotel, which can be confusing. A colleague got stung for a £50 penalty. There are signs, but not many people carry £12 in cash, as I am not sure if it accepts VISA. The signs are there if a bit elevated. I think I agree with the other reviewers, there are better hotels, but you will encounter parking problems with city centre hotels.

This hotel should be avoided at all costs. I travel a lot in the UK for business and the last thing I want from a hotel room is what they offer. 80s décor, no wifi, a 10 year old television, a dark dingy bathroom, no aircon and a room next to the the dual-carriage way. Breakfast in my room was cold and tastless. They did an interesting thing with the toast by using it as a coaster, literally setting a plate on top if it. I was speechless. Waking up in the Crapthorn will ruin your day. There are much better hotels in Birmingham for the same price.

Kein besonders gutes Hotel!

I really liked this hotel when I stayed in it. The room was large and clean and complete with bath and shower. The convenient mid-town location meant that it was really handy for transport, shops and restaurants. The breakfast buffet is well stocked and there is a good variety of food, both hot and cold. We didn’t eat lunch/dinner in the hotel due to the large variety restaurants locally but it did seem to be overpriced. I should note that it is surprisingly easy to lock yourself out of the bathroom, certainly in the room which I stayed in and the staff weren’t very quick at coming to rescue me! Otherwise the staff were quite friendly and helpful particularly with ordering taxis.

I’m sorry but I really would not rate this hotel. It has its plus points such as central location and the food is quite nice but my room(a standard double) was the most depressing room I have ever stayed in(and I was there for a week!). It had absolutely nothing endearing and the bath/shower was filthy with mildew! Gross. The room was very very basic with one picture on the wall and a dirty looking window with net curtains that needed a good wash. I don’t know why people keep coming back here to be honest, there are FAR nicer hotels in Birmingham for the same cost! I will be avoiding this hotel in the future.
